Hey Shannon. Funny you mention shots. When I went back to the ER, that's what the dr gave me, 2 shots of Salmeterol. With that and the breathing treatments, I was feeling much better and am making the better choices with the eating. Now I wish I would have done this on Tuesday but am very grateful for everyone's advice. It is so nice to know that others went through something similiar and to see how they handled it. I still have 2 more days on the Z pack so that should still work. Thanks for the advice & well wishes!

Theresa,

Glad to read that you were able to get something!  I worry about your breathing with all of your other problems.  I would like it if you would post what, if any, effects the shots have on your eating.  Just would like to have an opinion in case anyone ever asks me!  Keep feeling better and be 100% soon!

Glad you got some help. I much more prefer the shots. Thats not to say if it came down to something more serious I wouldnt endure the side effects of the pills that I hate. Please dont have a fear of eating. Thats just another eating disorder in itself. Thats what got me to the point of WLS to start with. Food is not the enemy. I for one know I dont eat perfectly. So early out I wanted to do all I can to be successful with what I had just put my body thru for the better in my life. I went back to my manual regularly and met the protein requirements. I was too scared not too and still am. I have enough problems with muscle loss due to limited exercise with my serious back condition. I am doing what I have to do to try and get it better. Protein builds muscle and my heart is a muscle. I dont want to lose that or anymore muscle for that matter. Since plastics will have to wait due to finances I want my skin to have muscle behind it if it can.
Glad you are feeling better. Post and let us know the good times girl. You have something to add to and we want and need to hear it. Let us know your experience as it may just help someone else.

I know I am a bit late respoding but did want to make a suggestion for maintenance.  I end up with a lot of sinus infections that turn into bronchitis due to allergies & sinus drainage.  A few things that my doctor is working on with me is maintenance to keep it from developing.  I do two squirts of nasal allergy spray & a zyrtec (generic brand from Costco, Allertec is great) and that helps me a lot with my issues.  Perhaps this is something you can discuss with your doctor.

I'm late responding...  so I see you have gotten the shots by now.

My questions would have been why would you not get yourself well by taking the meds.  If you are breathing bad enough to warrant a trip to the ER, I don't understand the hesitation.

I went to the ER (the first time) not for what I thought was breathing so OBVIOUSLY I didn't think steroids were THE answer. That was the entire purpose of my post was to see what other answers or suggestions could be had. To me, because of a previous history of being on them for 18 months and having 150 lb gain from them, they are A LAST AND FINAL resort and at that point, the first trip to the ER, I didn't think I was at that point. My post was made before my 2nd trip to the ER, in which, I had realized that I needed to do more AND did so. The hesitation, as you put it was because I didn't think at that point, that I wanted to risk halting my weight loss for some medicines, if I wasn't positive that all my other resources had been exhausted.

But thanks, I did get myself well, by doing what was ultimately decided for me by my team of doctors and myself, after discussing with them other options there were given to me.

I understood the post.  I understood that you were worried about the weight gain.  But to me, if the meds would get you well then that is what matters most.

I also think that your response to me was a little ****ty.  I don't understand why.  But I'm not going to worry myself over it, for sure.

No not that way at all! Definitely not intended to be that way. It's not that I doubted that the meds would get me better, I just wanted to know if others had any luck with other options before steroids. To me, they were a last resort, especially after my surgery. And because of some of the suggestions, and the discussions with my team of dr's, an alternative to the original suggestion of oral steroids was decided upon. Which is what Tammy is wanting me to post about, the IM steroid.
