Hi everyone, my name is Becky. I just moved to Newport News in August and it's time to find a primary care physician. I have TriCare Prime at the moment and am seriously considering switching over to TriCare Standard in order to expedite the approval process for WLS. As I'm sure many of you have experienced the dreaded task of finding a new doctor who is supportive of WLS and doesn't look disgusted at obese people, I am hoping someone out there can help me find a primary care physician in the area. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Thanks in advance,
Becky

Hi Becky,
Welcome to the VA boards. I have Tricare Prime and had my surgery after 9 months wait at Portsmouth. I love my PCP. He is very proactive about bariatric surgery. He is at Oceana though and that's a bit far for you!
Sporty Jill usually posts here but is ultra busy with fiscal year end stuff. She had prime and switched to standard so she may be able to help.
You could look at my profile and link to her under my friends.

I haven't had mys urgery yet, but Portsmouth has a top notch program for WLS. And the wait isn't that long. I had the Orientation in February and then got my first call for appointments in july and I'm having surgery in 2 weeks.

Hi Becky and welcome to the board. I moved to Newport News, Va a year and a half ago and had my surgery on Feb. 18. My family Dr.. is Amy Campbell and my WLS  Dr. is Dr. Thomas Clark who is excellent. There are several ladies and gentlemen that have had Dr. Clark, and have nothing but good reports about him.

I have to say that I had my surgery at PNH and I had the best care. My wait was longer because they did not have 2 docs until recently. You will be surprised how fast the time goes by. Good luck and keep us posted.

Portsmouth now has 4 Dr.'s and the list is moving rapidly...I hear the hardest part ia getting psyc and Nut appointments as there is still only 1 or 2 that do those consults.
