I need to order a med. alert bracelet.  Do any of you have them and what information did you include for the RNY surgery?

Thanks,
Amanda

Yes, I have one and speaking as a medic then I highly recommend them.  I have on mine:

RNY Gastric Bypass 04/25/05
Dr. Hutcher office #
no n saids
no blind ng tube
must carry water at all times
allergic to the various meds i personally need listed

putting the water on there allows me to take it into places that it is normally prohibited.  keep it short, simple and to the point.  add any other health issues you personally have.

Congrats on making the choice to get one!

I have one that I really like -- while it is a medical alert bracelet, it is designed more like a nice bracelet.  Mine says Gastric Bypass.  Use Caution With NG Tube.  No NSAIDs.  Hope that helps.  :)

From a medic standpoint...please be careful with the "nice looking" ones.  In an emergency we do not always see the medic "charm" as needed.  Try and remember, this is a life saving tool, not a fashion statement.  I recommend bracelets as opposed to necklaces, too.  I have seen too many medics miss the charm when the bracelet looks like a piece of regular jewlery.  Hopefully you will never have a need for anyone to view the bracelet.  I personally have a regular one I wear daily and a nicer one I wear when I am getting dressed up or going out.  Hope this is helpful to someone!

That is good advice Tam. I have been thinking about getting one especially now that I am working.
I also carry a card in my wallet with the same info you recommend. In my cell phone I also list  the info under a 2nd ICE contact.

That is awesome!!!!!  I have been a medic since high school.  They offered a program there and I took it and volunteered with the local rescue squad.  My uncle is a fire chief/first responder so naturally, I am now a first responder, too...along with his wife and daughter.  His daughter is also a dispatcher for Albermarle County!  It runs in our family.

The second ice contact if a faboulous idea!  You are such a smart lady.

I am not trying to harp on the subject...just want folks to be as well informed as they can so they can make their own decisions.  Thanks for taking the advice the way it is meant to be.

How is the job going?????

Point well made, Tammy.  In fact, I was concerned about that when I was looking into them, and made sure that the "charm" on mine is very noticeable as a medical alert charm and even went so far as to get my doctor to approve it.  No sense in having one if it isn't seen.  It's just nice to know that there are options out there other than the "traditional" medic alert bracelets! :)

Like you I am good in a crisis--even those involving family. I love your idea of not having cutsie alerts.

The job kicked my butt yesterday! We have 100 kids at our after school program and 94 of them were there.YIKES!!      Now I know why 6 years ago after 3 misscarriages I decided no more pregnancy's for me. At 44, I am ready for grandchildren, well at least from our 24 year old!

Where do you get one that can have so much information on them? My Daughter is Epileptic and Her bracelets hardly have room for her condtion and meds. (3 lines I think). Please let me know i'd like to get one after surgery.

thanks

Christy,

I have several.  I ordered one from my jewelers here in Richmond (Steven's Jewelers), I have ordered one from Laurens Hope online and I have gotten two from Things Remembered.  You can engrave on both sides of them if the bracelet is lose enough that it can be flipped without removal.  I have an arrow in the bottom corner so that they will know to flip them.  The best priced one I got was actually from my jewelers!  Let me know if you need more info.  I highly recommend them!
