My First WOW moment

First let me say, I've had a pretty bad week - I know in my head that my weightloss (30 lbs in 5 weeks) is nothing to sneeze at, but I see such high numbers on the boards sometimes that I've been feeling like maybe I'm doing something wrong or that I'm doomed to be a "slow loser" -

I've been pretty run down and tired and haven't done any exercising this week or been much use for anything at all - Of course, the beauty of RNY is that even though I've felt pretty discouraged, I've stuck with my good eating habits (mainly because I'm too afraid to get sick if I screw up) and have been diligent about the protien and water all week as well -

Anyway, to get to the point, today I thought maybe I would go see for myself how I'm really doing by paying a little visit to Lane Bryant (clothing sizes don't lie and all) -

Before my surgery, I was fitting into a 28 or a 30 depending on the type of clothes, edging more toward the 30 -

Today, I grabbed a few things in 24's and 22-24's and OH MY GOD they fit!  The 24 size jeans aren't quite there yet, but the other things, a dress and a pair of dress slacks were definitely 22-24 and they definitely fit me!  I haven't been that size in more than 10 years, and it was such an awesome feeling I nearly started crying right in the dressing room -

I knew that my weight (283 as of this morning) was the lowest I'd been in many, many years, but until I actually tried on those clothes, it just didn't sink in...

I'm thinking I may lurk around the Lane Bryant every couple of weeks just to see how I'm doing - I don't get much feedback on my weight since I work from home and don't have a very active social life and the "hard facts" of clothing sizes might help!

Thank you all for being so supportive and patient with me as I learn my way around this lifestyle change and road to a healthier me!

Rho -

You are doing just fine - wonderful in fact and right on target. Pre-op I too thought the first weeks would show a greater weight loss but it stuck to 20 lbs/month for a couple of months, then was steady at 8-10 lbs/month for most of the rest of the first year.

In addition to trying clothes in smaller sizes, don't forget to take your measurements regularly.  You will get to a point where it seems the pounds aren't going very fast, but your clothing sizes will continue to plummet.  It's really amazing! Enjoy the ride!

Rhonda:  First and foremost, you are doing great!  You have discovered one of the secrets of this journey -- don't go just on what the scale says.  Judge by your clothes, measurements and most of all, how you feel.  I realized early on that I couldn't judge my weight loss by what I was reading on OH...different people lose at different rates. Your body is doing just what it supposed to do at the pace it needs to.  Keep following the guidelines your surgeon gave you, exercise as much as you are allowed at this stage, keep up your fluids and protein intake...and you will be in business!  Congratulations on the big change in clothing...the first of many WOWs, I am sure!  :)

First of all Rho - 30lbs in 5 weeks is phenomenal!!! When were you ever able to lose that much at any one time??? SO you should feel very positive about yourself!   You are doing great! And today was the first of many wow moments! So hang on to your hat and enjoy every second of these moments!! (And try not to get picked up as a suspicious character at Lane Bryant swhen you go there checking stuff out lol!)

I am so proud of you - and you should be proud of yourself too!

Great news!!  WOOHOO for smaller sizes!  :)  I'm happy for you.

If you haven't already started, take all your measurements.  It's also a great reminder when the scale gets "stuck" that you are still losing inches.  Which reminds me, i need to take my measurements again!  :)

Thanks so much everyone - I know I was being silly about the weight loss, but sometimes you just need a kick in the butt, I guess -

I haven't been measuring myself, but I will start right away!

-hugs to all-

Rhonda - WOW!  Congratulations!  i'm so happy for you!  i think we all go through doubts about our weight-loss (time it took, sizes etc).  its easy to be hard on ourselves, (personally, since i'm so used to failing at weight loss).  you ARE doing it! be proud and keep up the good work! lys
