Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for all your advise on my previous post.  I tried my protein shake again yesterday and had no problems.  So I think it was just too early.  So far I have been able to handle everything I have tried, which isn't much.  I am going to try some yogurt today but I am worried that even though it is sugar free the sugar grams are still at 11, so I might not be able to do the yogurt, but the sugar free pudding went down really well until I added my blood pressure meds to it then yuck.  I have to figure out how to get them down.  Its the only thing that makes me ill.  Oh well, I can't complain.

Just have to keep sipping my water and get these shakes in and I should be good to go.  I really need to start on my vitamins today too.

Thanks again, you all have been a real blessing!!!

Amanda - I believe yesterday you said you were crushing the BP meds?  If so, you might want to get a pill splitter and cut the pills so you can swallow them in pieces with water rather than crushed and mixed with yogurt.  Cutting pills worked better for me than crushing and trying to gag them down with the little bit of food I was allowed early out.

Good luck!

Oh I remember those days of gagging down my blood pressure medication until some kind soul (like Cleo) told me to use a pill splitter- saved my life lolo! Gagging that down was worse than having the surgery....

I am wondering what kind of yogurt you are having that is sugar free - 11 grams of sugar - to me - is way too much and I still would not eat yoghurt with it even now.... you should try the low carb, low sugar stuff which has less chance of making you dump....

Just take your time because it is all trial and error in the beginning....

I do agree with Cleo. I would get a pill cutter because those bp ground up taste awful!!! They would make anyone sick. I am so glad that things are starting to get a little easier for you. Just take one day at a time. And keep us updated!

I added my crushed pills to my protein shakes and didn't have a problem.  I'm so happy to hear you are doing so well.  Take care.  Sherry

I am glad the protien is starting to work out for you!

You got some excellent advise on the pill splitter!

On the yogurt, those sugars are a little high.  I have try to buy yogurt with 5g or less. The one I have now is Dannon light & fit, carb & sugar control. It only has 2g of sugar in it.

I am so glad that you are feeling better!  I agree with the others...a pill splitter is a must.  I got mine from Walgreens for 0.99 and still use it now for anything big that I have to take.  Yogurt is good but 11 grams is a bit high.  Like Melissa said, Dannon lite and fit is good and if you have a Kroger around they have a store brand called carb master that is awesome.  You may want to check the flavor that you are having as some have a lot more grams than others.  I also use Yoplait in the blue for a good blended one but some of the flavors have chunks of fruit in them.  Good luck!

Hi, Amanda:  So glad to hear you are doing so well.  Great suggestions from everyone -- the one suggestion I have is to try one of the nonfat Greek yogurts....i.e., Fage, Oikos or Chobani.  Make sure they are nonfat (lower sugar) -- the added benefit to them is they are very high in protein.  Mix some sweetener with them and they are great.  I remember Jackie mentioning one time that you can mix a little of the powdered mix for sugar free instant pudding in with -- I haven't tried it but it sounds delicious (especially chocolate in my chocolate addicted mind!).  Hope that helps!  :)
