I am home!!!!
Hi All,
Well, I have joined you all on the loser's bench. I came home last night and am doing pretty well. The first 24 hours after surgery were not fun, but once I started drinking again things improved quickly. I have been so blessed and so far all the things I was worried about have not really been an issue. I have to say the staff at Fair Oaks were awesome. The surgery went well, they did biopsy my liver but that was just a precaution. Well, I am going to catch up on all the posts that came in while I was away.
I do have one question. I tried my protein shake last night and while I had no problem with the taste, I felt like I cramped up a bit. Pam told me to talk to the nutritionist about it but they are all out today and Dr. Moazzez is in surgery all day. Do you think I should switch to soy milk? My mom was going to get me some yogurts today too since I have to crush up my blood pressure meds and so far that is the only thing that makes me queezy.
Thanks for all your support and prayers, it has made a huge difference.

welcome home! Glad ot hear everything went well.
Did you have a lactose problem or milk allergy prior to surgery? I was (am) lactose intolerant prior to surgery and unfortunatley no one told me that like 90% of the powders out there are concentrates, which upset my tummy. Isolates do not have the lactose and should be better to try and see your tolerance. Of course soy is another option, though I found the soy powder I had didn't taste too good. It's kind of trial and error at first. Remember to sip slowly, drinking too fast also gave me a little tummy ache too.

Congrstulations Amanda and welcome to the loser side!!!!!!!!!! I am glad all seems to be going well for you - you are doing great!!!
You should really call his office and check but cramping may be that you are drinking too fast or too big a gulp at a time, or even that it is too cold - sometimes your pouch likes room temperature liquids in the beginning - it also could be lactose intolerance but that is usally accompanied by the trots as well lolol!
But call his office and make then work for you lol!!

Amanda,
Wlecome to the losers' bench!
The first time I tried mixing my protein powder with milk (skim) I experienced some discomfort and thought it may have been post-op development of lactose intolerance since I'd not had any trouble before when mixing the powder with water. I laid off of the milk for a couple more weeks and was fine later. Just an adjustment my body (and mind!) had to make.
Best of luck on your journey!

Welcome to the losers bench!! I agree with what everyone said! Talk with your doctor and take it slow. I do rememeber when ever I would try a new protien my pouch would act weird. But that would be for the first one then I was fine. I can not do the creamy protiens like muscle milk. They make me sick. But take you time and try again. Your pouch is learning about itself!!
