Gnats. We have had a problem before, especially when it's more humid than normal. When it's not humid, they go away but lately, they are here. It's not an infestation but just enough to annoy me to pieces. We have vacuumed all the carpets, bleached all drain pipes, sprayed furniture and have checked for any foods that could be open and out. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had that problem after I had a major drain pipe replaced in the wall under the kitchen that went into the floor of the basement and then ripped down and replaced the the basement laundry room/bathroom ceiling (same room with the drain pipe); changing from 1 foot square paper tiles to a drop ceiling with 2x4 foot tiles.
Apparently the gnat issue has someting to do with the lifestyle of creatures that reside in the walls (bewteen inside and outside) and whatever moisture is there.
The gnats are not gone but have been all but been eliminated after I sprayed indoors around the pipes under the sinks, behind and around appliances (fridge, washer & dryer, toilets) and any other spaces like between cabinets and counters (with sinks) and walls, etc.  I used the outside stuff bug killer stuff that is supoose to last 3 months or so and my handy-dandy 2 gal pump sprayer.  I didn't mix it as strong,...and it something like triarizide or diozanon (spelling is a guess).  Then get out of the house for a couple of hours so the fumes don't make anyone have headaches or feel ill.  Or just call and have a professional do the spraying/treatment(s).
Hope that helps.

Hey Theresa, you might try a mixture of Listerine and water in a spray bottle as I know it works on mosquitos.. Jim

You can set bowls with tight sealed seran wrap on them with vinegar.   Poke little holes in seran just enough to have them be able to go into it.    We usually get them here in Oct and although a nuisance, we get rid of them quickly.   Vinegar attracts..........good luck.
