Hey everyone...ive just found this site. it was recommended by a friend of mine who had wls. my dh is starting the process. hes not much of a computer/message board person so i thought i would get on here and find out as much as i can.

does anyone have experience with VCU, particularly Dr Kellum? his initial appt is scheduled for 8/28. we also have to schedule a sleep study on monday. can anyone give me any idea on a timeline? i know  we will probably find out at the appt, but im impatient.

i have anthem local choice insurance and it covers the surgery with no pre-reqs or controlled diets or anything like that. (thank goodness!!!) so insurance hoops shouldnt be a problem for us..i hope!

i really want to help my husband in any way possible, if anyone has ANY advice, please share! thanks!

I'm a newbie as well, so I have limited to no real life advice to offer.

I did, however, want to welcome you!

Everyone here is very helpful and will provide not just information, but support as well.

I wanted to welcome you! I don't have alot of info on Dr. Kellum, I was going to him at 1st but he had a long waiting list for me. I have cigna so i did have to do six month diet 1st but he could see me for 3 months and he had a waiting list for WLS. I do love VCU, best hospital in VA, I think, but maybe it has change. Good luck!

I am glad you found your way over here!!  You are a wonderful wife to be so supportive for your husband!  This is a great group of people.  I have been so blessed to have found this place.  The people here are extremly supportive and knowledgable.  I had my surgery about 7 weeks ago. I have meet many of the people on this board in that short time in get togethers.  I tell you what.  I have never meet so many wonderful people in my life who are pure like here.  They are very dear to me.  Ask any questions, you will get answers!!

Welcome to the board!  I can't answer your questions as I am in NoVA and not familiar with that group.  Try and research as much as you both can, start making small changes now to help with the transition & try to find a local support group to go to.  With both of you being in this & knowing as much info as possible it will make things so much easier.

Hi there! I wanted to welcome you to this site. I do not have any knowledge of that doctor or hospital but I think it is great that you are supporting your husband as support is SO important. Although, many of us may not be able to help you with this particular request please feel free to ask any other questions that we can help with. This is a great board for support!

Hello and welcome to the site!  I had RNY a little over three years ago and have lost about 260 lbs.  I am maintaing now and am happy where I am.  I do not have any info on Dr. Kellum for you.  I used Commonwealth Surgeons, Dr. Hutcher for mine.  I do not like MCV hospital for much of anything.  I hate driving down there and despise paying to park somewhere!  I wanted to welcome you and wich you and your husband good luck.  We have a monthly get together here in Richmond...would love to see you both at the next one if you can make it!

welcome to the site.  I am pretty new as well but everyone has been so supportive and kind!

The best thing I think you can do to help your husband is to continue being super supportive. It's really awesome that you are helping him get as much information as possible.
