Hey all,

For the past week or so I have been feeling shakey and a bit lightheaded about the same time every day. between 5-7 PM. By this time of the day I have eaten 2 or 3 meals and an afternoon snack, a piece of cheese or a slice of ham, or 4 oz of protein shake. I am getting in all my fluids about 90 oz daily.

In the morning I take Lamictal and Paxil for depression and anxiety. Before bed I take Seroquel for night terrors. (the medicine  makes me not dream and I get a peaceful  nights sleep) None of these meds are new to me.

I  put a call in to my doctor but thought I'd toss it out to all of you.
Thanks

Jen

Jen what time is your last meal? What is sounds like is that your sugar is dropping and maybe for a couple of days try to eat something around 6:45 and see what happens. I know that some people that have had the surgery have a problem with low sugar at times. Hope this helps.

I agree with Pat...sounds like low blood sugar.  Do you happen to have a meter available?  Do you know how to check your blood?  If not, go to the nearest fire station that has EMS & ask them to check it for you.  Explain your situation & they will probably check it for you.  STILL check with your doc, but I'd bet that's what the problem is.  Easily cured too.  Instead of eating 2 or 3 meals per day, plan out 4 to 6 smaller ones evenly spaced apart...3 to 4 hours.  I bet you'll see a marked improvement.  Keep us informed, kiddo!

Hugs!
Ann

I get that feeling if I've not eaten recently....you say you've had an afternoon snack...but has it been 2-3 hours? My endocrinologist (yep, have one of those now too!) recommened I have something to bring up my sugars every 2-3 hours. I was dropping my blood sugars and that would cause a mini-anxiety attack....so not pleasant! May want to get checked out if it's happening often.

Hi Jen!!

I agree with everyone else.  Sounds like your blood sugar is dropping and you need some food.  I know that I do better if I eat about every 3 hours.  If I wait much longer than that between meals, I have the same feelings you are dealing with.

Definitely check it out with your doc though and see what he has to say.  Keep us posted!!

Jen: It does sound like a blood sugar issue...the same thing happens to me. I have to be very careful about the amount of carbs and sugar I consume during the day, and if I eat anything with much more than 15 carbs I have to pair it with a protein to make sure I don't have dips in blood sugar. It is a form of reactive hypoglycemia, almost like dumping but not quite. It also happens when i have not eaten enough, so I have to plan my meals very carefully to make sure I get in at least 1300 - 1400 calories (I am 5'4" and weigh 148).

I experience the same things due to low blood sugar.  Even if you are eating meals, snacks & protein drinks, it could be that there is too much time in between.  Perhaps you could try changing up your schedule to see what happens.  I actually respond better with carbs, you may want to try some whole wheat/grain crackers with your cheese & ham.  If you have access to a tester that would help.  Keep a food diary for a few days, noting time, amount & type of food/drink.  Test your blood about an hour after eating or when you feel shakey.  Having that information to go over with your surgeon/nut. will be very helpful.

Hey Jen,

I hope everything is better today. You know I experience the same thing but the ER said my sugar level was perfect yesterday. I have no clue, but it sounds like the rest gave good advice and I may try it myself. My body is just nutso right now and no one seems to have any answers or solutions. I'm hoping the Gastro will have something good to say. I am currently on one of the same meds as you and I took Seroquel for 4 years before recently changing to Temazepam. I don't think its either of those.

Anyway, if there is anything I can do, let me know! Love ya,
A

Ditto to what everyone esle said.  I eat ever 2-3 hours AND carry "sugar" pills for when an emergency arises and I need to fix my problem.  I had low blood sugar before surgery and now it is extremely low.  Keep me posted and let me know if this keeps happaning.  Hope you feel better soon!
