Sonja,
Of course, check with your Doc.
For me, my pharmacist said that Wellbutrin XL (the extended release type) would no longer work after my RNY. I then talked with my Psych who put me back on regular Wellbutrin. Turns out it was significantly cheaper since the regular type is available in generic, while the XL is not.
I have felt much more positive after losing 125 lbs. I am completely off Wellbutrin and on a very lose dose of Prozac and Klonipin.
I hope things go well for you.
Joe

AS OF NOW $$$ FOR MEDS IS NOT A PROBLEM SINCE I HAVE MILITARY INSURANCE. AND MY DOCTOR HAS ORDERED ME TO START SEEING A PSYCH OR SHE SAYS SHE WONT KEEP GIVING ME MY MEDS..NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT..HOW COULD SHE DO THAT..THAT WOULD BE DANGEROUS I WOULD THINK..BUT I KNOW SHE JUST WANTS ME TO START TALKN TO A HEAD DOCTOR...WHICH I NEED TO..SO I CAN GET OVER THESE ISSUES THAT HAS ME DEPRESSED IN THE FIRST PLACE...
I, ALSO HOPE THINGS CONTINUE TO GO SWELL FOR YOU!
CONGRATS ON YOUR LOSS....

Welcome Sonja. That is surprising that you had gain with Zoloft as it is supposed to be one with little risk of weight gain. There are other options that will work with the pouch and a good doctor will help you find one. The Wellbutrin (not extended release) should be fine. As for the psych., it would probably be helpful in so many ways as you could also work on food issues, and head issues about weight. Best to you in your journey & we are here to help.
Hi Sonja,
Wellbutrin, but not the extended release formula, is fine for your pouch post op. I was on it and am on Lamictal now instead.(needed something different for my depression issues)
Please don't take what I am about to say as judgemental or critical. Just sage advice.(if you hang around here at all you know I'm a big cheerleader and supporter)
I would urge you to speak to your psychologist now about your food issues. While Zoloft added to your weight issues, it was not medicine that made you obese. It is food that makes you obese. Yes there are metabolic issues too. I understand you are a PNH patient and the wait can be trying. Use this time to continue to learn all you can and deal with as many "head issues" so you will be ready for surgery.
After your consult with the doc at PNH, if he deems you qualified for surgery, you will be sent to see a psychologist at the hospital. You will also see the nutritionist. You can go to the nutrition classes that are offered at Portsmouth as well. Just call Mrs. Boone.
Wishing you all the best

Good am Sonja,
I agree with Jen that you should consider discussing your eating issues as well as meds issues NOW as with many of us have come to identify with addiction transfer issues and issues prior to WLS that were not addressed such as depression, eating, mental etc. Its incredibly important to understand why and what you're feeling and realizing that meds are a great addition to your journey IF you're addressing the correct issues initially. Some things cannot be helped or forseen but most can be/are. As for meds post op there are several we can take but do keep in mind our bodies change DRAMATICALLY post op and as you change, your body changes so do your needs.
