Hello.  I am a medic and a post op patient so I firmly believe we should ALL have these.  Speaking from a post op perspective here is the info for mine:

I have two, one purchased at Things Remembered and the other purchased at Steven's Jewlers in Richmond, VA

They both have the same info on them and it is as follows:

open rny gastric bypass
Dr, Hutcher 804-000*0000
no blind ng tube
no nsaids
MUST CARRY WATER AT ALL TIMES
allergic to ****
ICE contact Steve D*&^$ 804-000-0000

I put the bit abou****er so I can carry my own places instead of paying a fortune.

Speaking from a medic point please keep the following in mind:
bracelets are best
nothing flashy or fancy (we may overlook the medic part and think it is jewlery
put the essintials on it and remember...it can be two sided!!

Hope this helps

The blind ng tube is a tube that goes down your throat if they need to get air in you and the nsaids are like ibprofin, allieve and others. When you have the surgery it is recommend that you use Tynel products because it will not cause your stomach or pouch to become upset. I hope that this helps and good luck in getting your surgery date.

Sonja,

Rule of thumb from my surgeons office...

You do not have to have one, but you should have one.

the no nsaid (like Pat said...certain kinds of pain or antiinflammatory meds that irritate the pouch) is not that big of a deal because chances that you will be noncoherant and receiving them are not very good.  the no blind ng tube (intubation) is extremely since that is a tube that is put into you when you can not breathe.  If it is done without a scope to guide it it can (and usually does) punch a hole right through your pouch.  Since we are "rearranged: down there they need to be able to see what they are doing, hence using a scope to see and not doing it "blindly".

Hope this helps.  If not, please let me know and I will try to explain it better.  I strongly advise having one.

THANKS...EVERYONE..THAT INFO ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS...IM THINKIG SHOULD I CONTINUE TO WAIT OR SHOULD I JUST GET SOME PHENTERMINE AND WATER PILLS AND CALL IT A DAY....I KEEP SAYING TO MYSELF " HI MY NAME IS SONJA AND IVE HAD A GASTRIC BYPASS" AND IT JUST SOUNDS WEIRD.. ALMOST EMBARASSING...SO DAMN DRASTIC..I DONT WANT TO GET THE RNY AND THEN BE EMBARASSED TO SAY IVE HAD IT DONE....I GOT APPROVED WANTING THE LAP BAND..BUT CONSIDERING THE RNY...EVERY SINCE ORENTATION..AM I THE ONLY ONE THINKING LIKE THIS?

Sonja,
I do not think you are the only one thinking like this.  For me, I only went in with the mindset to have RNY and I knew it would be done open for two reasons...first I chose my surgeon, not my procedure and he only does open RNY's and second I was pretty sure (and now I am positive) that I would/will be having a TT or LBL at some point and the scar would be the same for both procedures.  I knew I would NOT be successful at the lap band.  A lot of people are, it was just not for me personally.  Do all of your research and never be embarressed about what you have done.  PM me if you want to talk more about it.  I am pretty much an open book about it!
