Woman's Meditation Week #2
The following is an excerpt from the book "Meditations for Women Who Do Too much" by Anne Wilson Schaef. I thought it might be nice to share one on a weekly basis for discussion or your own private journaling purposes. Enjoy!
Week #2 - BEING OBSESSED
Why women who do too much housework should neglect it for their writing. Brenda Ueland.
This quotation is a chapter heading in Brenda Ueland's book "If You Want to Write." It sums up the issue of being obsessed with our work. Yet she goes on to devote an entire chapter to it.
Why is it that the first things we give up and neglet are ourselves and the things what mean the most to us, like out creativity, our health, out children, and our loves? How sad it is that we often neglect our treasures for activities of far less value.
Well, that the insanity of additiction is about isn't it? We cast our pearls into the pig pen, and we scrub the colors off the kitchen tiles.
Let's get clear here about what needs to be neglected.
Well, this one is for everyone else's benefit... I'm definately not one to "scrub the colors off the kitchen tiles". LOL. I'll answer in another context - I do tend to neglect myself for other people. A great example is how much I do for my husband. Yeah, yeah I complain he's a big man child, but I mommy up more often than none because it's just easier to take care of the man and make sure he's all set with everything than beg for help all the time. I'm thankful for help I do get I guess. Sometimes I get a bit lost in all that I do for others, my job, etc. It's easy to lose yourself.

This is an excellent post!
I was the do everything for everyone except for me during my first marriage. When we seperated, I got a taste of having time to do things for myself.
When I remarried, I got 2 more kids, one who came to live with us. Leo went back into the Navy after a long absence. He deployed and I forgot to take care of myself..I gained even more weight. My kids were preteens then and I started to do little things for myself..even a trip to the grocery store was fun. Then I made the decision to do the ultimate thing for myself, WL surgery,. This has been the best thing I could have done. It has empowered me to take time for me every day.
