Now look here ya'll The Sleep Fairy is a SHE and I try hog tyin' her butt ALL the time! Seriously though for MANY post-op's sleeplessness is a major occurrence and can be due to many things. Initially post-op I slept pretty well. In the months and years following I just don't. I've come to live with it frankly after much testing (sleep apnea pre-op but no more) and have discovered some triggers and avoid them now. For example, walking later at night tends to release endorphins in which makes me hyper. GO FIGURE! Other things are stress and every day common things such as disturbances where you sleep (tv, internet radio, too much light) and interruptions. Its also common after major surgeries to have lack of sleep due to your body try to adjust. ***PLEASE*** consult your doc on the above and these next couple of sentences. DO NOT RELY ON SLEEPING PILLS UNLESS PRESCRIBED. I do use Tylenol PM which IS approved by every surgeon/doctor I'm aware of with little or no side effects for me. It not only relieves aches but helps me sleep pretty well. In addition, if this because a deterrent in your everyday life and its affecting daily activities and functioning PLEASE call/see you doc for a follow up. I STRONGLY suggest a sleep study when your doc/surgeon believes its best. Keep in mind with lose a significant amount of weight usually and our bodies change pretty dramatically. All best!

I seemed to notice early out that my sleep was affected, mainly because of the naps/rests I was taking as I recovered.  Too much sleep during the day made it for not so much sleep at night.  Then once I started to get further out, I decided it was a metabolism change, my body was healthier & worked better so it didn't need as much rest.  I do miss it though, I loved my lazy weekend mornings where I could sleep forever.  I do have some issues now with falling asleep & staying asleep.  Tylenol P.M. is my friend for those nights that I just can't fall asleep, period!  Hope you guys get some rest soon.

I am using Unisom Sleepmelts.  They are great.  My doc prescribed me Ambien, but I didn't remember what I did after I took it.  The sleepmelts work really well, and aren't at all overpowering.

I have been given lunesta by my shrink.  It is working wonderfully for me.  I really didn't like ambien.  I know the PM's work really well too.  I hope you all find something that helps you.  Lisa
