RNY on 08/12/08 with
okay, well i went to my seminar on saturday.  i was mostly interested in the rny but was leaving the door open for the lap band.  i now know the rny is for me, so that's good!  i met a few people there who have had both of the surgeries, that was neat...to be able to meet a real live person...lol!  i found out my insurance doesn't have a 6 month diet requirement so that's awesome!  i asked how long before i could have surgery and the response was 4-8 weeks.  i guess i misunderstood cause i called 1st thing this morning to get an appt. and the first available was 8.20.08...WOW!  so i guess it looks like sometime in september...hopefully!  kinda crushed i can't even get my 1st appt til then but it's okay.  i'll deal right?  i have a few questions to ask them but my stupid phone is out of order right now (comcast was supposed to come today, not shocked they put me off) and i can't call...  just frustrated!!  kinda venting, i guess!  oh well, so i guess i'm officially on my way...yay for me!!!  i know they said not to rush but you just can't help it!!!

I know that was frustrating, but figure it this way, the more time you have the more you can learn ahead of time which will make the surgery step that much easier.  Soak in as much as you can, ask lots of questions and of course stay in touch with all of us here for support and love.  :)

Yay!

Trust me when I tell you I UNDERSTAND about the waiting thing....I scheduled my surgery for July 2 way back in Feb. or March. But I used the time to get started with healthier habits and lose some weight - as well as learn a ton from the great people on this board (I went to "boot camp", but that was just me)

Vent away, but congrats on getting the process started!

Congrats on getting your first appointment.  Use the time to gain as much knowledge as possible for when you do go.  Start a list of questions to ask when you do go in.  It will be here before you know it.   Anna

Its very tough all the hoop jumping we have to go through but ANYTHING worth having is worth waiting and/or fighting for RIGHT? Sure its easier said than done since I am post-op but I will never forget those feelings. In awe of others who gone before me (I sound like a flippin' movie line right?) who'd lost quite a bit and I wanted it badly. My turn came and now I get to give back all the kindness and such given to me so openly. Besides Aug is a GREAT month and ever September and heck ANY month truly! Vent away! All best!

Sounds like you are on your way.  The waiting can suck but definitely use it to prepare yourself!  The more knowledge & prep you have, the easier the transition will be.
