Daily Inspiration - Develop your support network

Develop your support network.

Sometimes the most effective way to feel better is to get help with a problem, rather than falling into self pity. When you connect with another WLS patient, you can support each other through the ups and downs after surgery. Keep in mind that asking for help can be just as supportive as helping another. You can call for help when your resolve is weak and know you will be understood. Asking for help is strength; although, many people feel like they are going to bother someone or they are afraid.

The more you ask for help, the easier it becomes to call on your support system. Before you know it, this system will become a vital part of your life.

Action for the day: Remaining part of a support network is still important, no matter how far out from surgery you get. Today, check on a fellow WLS patient to see how he or she is doing.

I could not agree with that more! i do not know where i would be without my support people - it is always good to have people to turn to and get advice or hear about new food ideas etc..... I go to three support groups and get something different from each one! PLUS I have this board to come to every day as well and you all are so important to my success and everyone else's.  I love my WLS buddies! Jackie

Great thread, as always.  I can attest to how important this is.  I have gained a wealth of information on all aspects of wl.  Not just about foods & exercise, but also help with wrestling the demons within.  Until I came here, I never heard of "head hunger";  I had no idea that hormones are attached to fat cells & that can lead to mood swings.  I have gained so much from all of you...friendships that I hope will last a lifetime, admiration for the success stories, encouragement when I'm feeling weak.  This journey impacts all aspects of my life & you all add clarity to things, or a different perspective when I stumble.  And how nice it is when something good happens to have so much love & applause.  A little validation can go a long way.  You all have become my family & I am blessed.

Hugs!
Ann

I agreed whole heartedly. This past Sat did such wonders for me. Again, as I've mentioned a few times realizing more & more I'm not alone. :) Support is paramount to the success of ANY of us and I think we're proving that more & more. Hugs....
