Depression

Ok so I am two weeks out and I am bawling like a baby.  Is this a chemical thing?  Is it normal.  My husband went back to work today, which I know is part of it, but I haven't missed any of my Zoloft doses.  It hit me very suddenly this morning.  Any thoughts on this?  Lisa

Ahhh yes, the post-surgery blues.  Many, if not all of us, have gone through this.  As Courtney keeps reminding me, there are hormones attached to our fat cells & as we begin to lose the weight our hormones go a little wonkie.  And you're probably right about hubby going back to work playing a part in the depression.  If it doesn't get any better in a couple of days, & since you're taking your Zoloft, I would suggest calling your doctor for further advice.  But this usually goes away in a relatively short time.  Believe me, my poor hubby didn't know WHO he was coming home to for about 2 weeks....one minute I'd be boo-hooing for no apparent reason, & the next I'd be demon witch from he!! snapping his head off.  Just be kind to yourself & know that this will pass soon.

Hugs!
Ann

Thanks Ann,  that does make me feel a little better.  I figure since I am doing it and it is a pressure reliever, I  may as well cry with gusto.  I am about ready for a nap, LOL

Hi, Lisa! I agree with Ann - everything I have heard and learned indicates that it is related to the fat cells storing hormones and then releasing them as you lose weight.  I know that estrogen, for example, is fat-stored, and leads to so many of the period problems that overweight women face.  Just the extra estrogen can make you weepy.  I agree - if you're gonna cry, cry with gusto.  Just know that this too shall pass and you're going to be healthy and skinny! Hang in there, and I'll keep you in my thoughts. elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth!  Not to steal her thunder, but I missed the opportunity to welcome you back to the fold & wanted to say hi.  I look forward to getting to know you better.  And btw, the party invite is open to you as well...see previous post about 4th of July celebration.

Hugs!

I have heard the same thing, about hormones being stored with the fat cells....never knew that before, but I sure do now!  For me, it hasn't been so much a depression as my moods being all over the place.  I am sure my family is wondering how long before my head starts spinning!  hehe  Hang in there, in the long run, this will all be worth it!  :)

Yep sounds like those pesky hormones are at it.  It will get better!

Thanks for the real important information.  I did not know that about the fat cells storing hormones.  I did drop about 4 lbs in the last two days, plus the monthly is getting ready to start.  Makes perfect sense.  I am getting out of the house for a while to see if it can counteract the blues.  You all are great.  Thanks so much!  Lisa

I think getting out of the house is the best thing you can do. I was going stir crazy for a while. Also, I recommend you start walking or exercising. I think exercise releases endorphines which help with depression (think I read this somewhere???). Penny

O sweetie...everyone deals with surgeries differently. You have just made a HUGE decision and had a HUGE surgery physicaly. It's no wonder why you would be a lil "post pardum". I wouldnt think to much of it but if it concerns you call and speak with the nurse :)
