Eating out???
I have tried to stay away from restaurants, but I've had to eat out alot latey (vacation, mom in hosp, etc). I would love to know what you guys chose when eating out. I went to a local mexican restaurant today for Father's Day. I ate the inside of 1 taco. Boy am I not feeling so good. Was it too fatty or what??? I have not really had any problems with food at home. Again, I would love to know what you guys choose at mexican, chinese, fast food, steak house, and any others.
Thanks all, Penny

I usually end of getting a ceasar salad with either shrimp or chicken (no croutons), dressing on the side. I eat the meat, and then try the salad, i usually end of taking most of it home. Chinese - steamed chicken & broccoli; i haven't been to a steak house yet, but plan on trying one soon.
Sorry to hear your mom is in the hospital, i hope things get better real soon. Lys
Hey, Penny: What might help is if you know you are having to eat out, go online and look up the nutritional information for the restaurant you are going to (if you know it). If you only know that you are going to a mexican restaurant, for example, look up the foods you might be interested and find out what their nutritional values are. I have been sooo surprised by the calories, fat and carbs in a lot of foods that I thought would be good choices. During the times I can't plan in advance, I opt for meats that are grilled, make sure that my protein is the first thing I eat and concentrate on through the meal. Salads with grilled chicken, dressing on the side is a great choice for me. Clear soups (not creamy) with meats and even vegetables in them work for me as well. I know of people who go places and order cheese platters (some have some fresh fruit with them)...if there's nothing else, opt for a nice salad and get the protein when you get back home. I hope this is of some help. :)

Penny - I am with Cindy - go on line and get the nutritional information before you go to a restaurant then you know what you can order - and if in doubt I order a salad and have my protein later. For the Outback Steakhouse - for instance - I have the grilled Shrimp on the Barbie appetiser and steamed broccoli with no butter...... I just try hard to make good choices.....
Usually grilled chicken or fish and some kind of salad seems to work for me.......... no bread, no rice, no pasta, no sauces, no fried foods are what I am looking for..........
Hope this helps
Jackie
I usally stick with a salad with grilled meat and dressing on the side. I choose low cal/low fat dressings.
Or, grilled meat with steamed veggies. The typical low carb fair.
At mexican restaurants, I choose the fajitas with no wrapper.

I too eat out from time to time...not always by choice. If it's mexican I will get some refried beans or pinto beans depending on what they have. They usually have taco salads as well and if you choose chicken instead of beef and cut down on dressing's or sour cream...( I dont eat the fried shell) that usually works well for me.Chinese I had to go to just a few days ago and it was a buffet no less. I went straight for the fresh fruit and salads...then to the boiled fish and they also had roasted pork. That worked great for me. I had a large plate of fruit to eat on and I was happy :)Steak house are easy for me...I have been twice and my husband and I have shared a salad, baked potato and steak or grilled chicken.Fast food DOESNT WORK FOR ME...the only thing fast food that I can tolerate is subway, I just get the tuna 6 inch and eat it wihthout the bread...:)Good luck in the future :)Brandi~
