Failure

RE:  "failure" I had RNY in 2004.  I lost 150 pounds and then got pregnant and gained 100lbs back.  I now am back where I started.  I feel like I did before the surgery.  I can eat anything and in fairly large portions.  I didn't know this could happen! As there anything I can do, besides surgery, to get my pouch back?

There is no easy answer,..and I know you didn't ask for one.  My first response would be to get back to basics, the eating program from about 2-3 months out.  Eat protein, drink water, and do something to move.   Your body cannot convert protein to stored fat, so eating protein is a use or lose (it) proposition for your body.  Real importabnt is not to starve youeself so you body doesn't go into starvation mode to store what you do eat rather than process it and pas it thru.  Of ocurse the water is essential to flush your liver and kidneys and prevent kidney stones from increased protein intake as well as hydration for you body functions and cell operations. And most of all, don't shy away from keeping us posted on your efforts and progess.  It is a great way to have some accountability and tremedous support from a terrific bunch of people on this board. Good luck

I think the idea of going back to the basics, increasing water and exercise should help.  Portion out your meals, cut carbs or other bad habits you may have picked up.  Talk with surgeon or nut. to see what they suggest.  I find that support is a big help to me, between being here on the board & going to a local meeting I get so many benefits.

As part of the going back to basics, there are a lot of people who swear by the Five Day Pouch Test (www.5daypouchtest.com/) as a good way to get started again.  It might be something to investigate.  Joe and Courtney have given some great ideas (as always)...best of luck to you!  :)

My suggestion would be to go back to your surgeon and nutritionist and see what they recommend you should do and let them help you....... That way you could at least find out if your pouch has stretched or if you are just used to eating a large amount of food and need to find a way of eating less...... Jackie
