Sleeve vs RNY
I know this is kinda late in the game to ask, but does anyone know what the difference in diets between the two are? I got info on RNY post op diet, but I am not sure if the guidelines are the same. I feel great by the way, my tummy is learning a new language, gurgle, squeek, rumble etc. and I am following right along, HeeHee! I have been out to walk 4 or 5 times today, but it is pretty hot now, so I am going to quit for the day. I don't really need the pain medication except every 8 hours or so. Gas is moving right outta here, and food is settling nicely.
Back to the topic, I know that I do not have to take as many multi vitamins as RNY patients, because of the intestine still being fully intact. Heartburn is still going to be a problem. Can anyone give me some insight as to what I am looking at as far as outcome? Thanks so much!
Hi there. Now this is me, personally, speaking and speaking from my own experiences as I had laproscopic RNY. When I was discharged from the hospital, 4 days after my surgery, I was sent home on a full liquid diet. This meant that I could have soup broths, sf popsicles, sf jello, clear liquids and my protein shake. When I went for my 2 week follow up, they increased my diet to soft/pureed foods like oatmeal, cottage cheese, sf puddings, scrambled eggs, cereals that were soggy, meat that was marinated (like in chili or soups or sauces) over cooked vegetables (but only a few varieties) and cream soups (healthy request brand) and vegetable soup. Then there was the 4 week check up 1 1/2 weeks ago. They increased me to being able to eat tuna and chicken salads, more vegetables, packaged or can fruit in it's own juice, sweetened with splenda. I go Wednesday for my 6 week follow up and this should be my last increase in diet. Now while these things are things that were suggested, of course, I only eat them if I can tolerate them. They are also just some ideas and not everything that I was allowed to eat during each time frame. As far as vitamins. I take a multi vitamin complete, 3 calcium pills and my vitamin A & D daily along with my pill to prevent ulcers. I don't know much about the Sleeve procedure except that the intestines are not bypassed. I know, not much help, right? I'm sorry but hopefully, giving you some of the food items from my increases as been helpful. Good luck getting the information you need!
I agree with Cindy. That is a good place to ask, not that we don't welcome you to this lovely board. Sorry that I couldn't have been more help but my surgeon didn't allow me on the soft diet til I was 2 weeks out and then, I wasn't able to eat all that you can at 3 days out. Again, every doctor is different. Good luck!
Good am Lisa,
Thought I don't know about the sleeve personally I've got a couple friends who've had it done and I will ask that they PM you with information. They are NOT on the boards often enough to keep up with posts and such. Anyhow I wanted to say I'm glad you're doing well & I hope it continues and I'd love to hear more from you! Good for you with walking and the pain meds will soon be gone with the gas and you'll get to feeling much better. Do keep us posted! All best!
