I am so mad right now.....
My PCP, who is great, totally pissed me off this morning. I went in for my pre op physical. I had approaced her about getting a month supply of claunapin (sp?) for anxiety. I have an appoinment set up with my psychairtist, but can't get in until July 9. I want something to get me through my surgery. She told me No she was not going to put me on it, it is very addicting, and I will be going every trying to find some. OMG!!! It is not that dramatic. I have been on this many times before. And I don't use it that often. A 30 day supply may last me 90 days or more. One thing, I like my anxiety. It motivates me. I am type A personality and control freak. So anxiety works well for me. But the anxiety that I want to address is the one where I get shaky, nausueated, stomach pain and diarreah. That is what I want to take care. So she put me on Zoloft. I will not get it filled. One it is a SSRI (whatever) and it may affect my surgery and they meds they may need to use. Not happening. Plus like I said, I need my anxeity. It works for me it helps me work. I am worried about the added anxiety of the pending surgery and would like to have a back up plan to assist me through the intense anxiety. I guess I will just have to wait till I see my psych Dr in July. He knows me very well. I have known him for 15 yeaars. He basically knows my life history and how I am. He knows I am the last person that will not allow myself to get addicted to crap. OK I am done.....
Hey Melissa. Now while everyone is different, and I am not a doctor or a nurse, nor do I play one on tv or the internet, I am pretty sure I can tell you this from personal experience. I, myself, was on Zoloft. I even took it the morning of my surgery, by doctors wishes. They, of course, knew about me taking it and never once said it would hinder my surgery. Of course, now, I don't take anything until I meet with my new therapist at the middle of the month but I don't think taking Zoloft would make you not able to have the surgery. But Zoloft is an anti-depressant not an anti-anxiety pill. Talk to the surgeon's office. Maybe they can help you with this issue, or call the psych's office and see if they can give you a few pills just for the few days before surgery. Good luck hun and if you need anything, we are here!!
hang in there. pcp's have really gotten serious about not prescribing any type of psych med because of insurance/liability issues. they don't care if it's documented in your medical records. call ypur psych's office and leave and let them know you are out of meds and cannot wait until your next appointment. they can usually pull your chart and have your doc write a script that will last until your next visit ( speaking from experience). hang in there sweetie. good luck - mel
Good am Melissa,
Klonopin is the correct spelling and I would surely call your shrinks office and tell them you cannot wait until your 9th July appointment. MOST are very accommodating with regard to anxiety meds. Klonopin IS very addictive if used over a long period of time, in frequency or abused. Sounds like to me you have control with it so it would be best to call and have your doc get your script called into the pharmacy. Keep us posted!
All best!

He will not be able to call a script in for me. I have known him for 15 years. Since I was 13. Yeah, I know. However, I have not seen him as a patient in a few years. So I am coming in as a "new patient." I have seen him a couple of time and my mom sees him so he is in the know all. But he had not carried any of my insurances over the past few years. When I called to make the appointment the Recep was like OH I know you!!! But that is why I was hoping she would give me a script for 30 days, or heck two weeks would do. I would not use them all before my surgery. So, I guess I will have to deal for the next couple of weeks.
