Hi,  I am new in the area and am hoping anyone from around here (Virginia Beach) can tell me about a support group that is local?   I am hoping to find something in Virginia Beach if possible.  I dont know my way around the area, but have the help of a gps.....  lol I arrived mid may and have been looking.    I really need support and would also like to give support (i think it works both ways)     I had my GBS in May of 05 back in MA.    I am really struggling right now.   Doing the stress eating and feeling all around lousy.    So if anyone can help, point me in the right direction etc.. please let me know. Not sure if I can make it to the BBQ, as it is 3 hours from here, but if I can I would love to go.   Maybe carshare with someone? thanks, Jill :)

Hi ya Jill I don't know where support groups are in VA Beach, but someone out there will. I had my surgery at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth. Often a group of us will get together for coffee or a meal. Keep watching for one around here. Stress eating is something many of us face at one time or another. Get back to basics, protein, Water, and exercise. Vent to us. Can you define what your trigger is right now?

Hi Jen,  thanks for the oh so kind welcome !!!   :)    I appreciate it.     My sister lives here, and has for 20 yrs...  and I was tired of massachusetts weather, etc.   lots of reasons that I will get into later... but mainly a failed relationship, etc.. made me want to make a move.    So I have relocated 4x in the past year and I need a job...  interviewing and insomnia combined have been my biggest trigger.  i even started smoking after 3 years of being quit!!      I have a very hard time when i am first in a new place.   Even though I have been visiting this area for years and years... its all kind of scary to me.  plus i am not in control of the food in the house, as i am staying with my sister and her boyfriend and her son.....  so there are lots of things that i would never have in my home...   once i get a job and can get my own place i know i will settle a bit stress wise...  until then I am struggling.     I would love to get together the next time you all do, and really would love to find a support group.  i dont have any insurance right now so i cant even go see a dr in the area.   I cant wait to have stability again! thanks again, hugs Jill :)

There are some people coming from VA Beach Jill so I am sure you can hitch a ride somewhere! Keep asking! It will help you make some more friends here so you feel that you have a back up support group! Jackie

I am going out of town for about 10 days. I'd love to meet you when I get back.  Meanwhile I googled Sentara Hospital and came up with this link to support info. http://www.sentara.com/Sentara/Services/WeightLossSurgery/Re sources/

I'm in the Richmond area, but wanted to welcome you to VA just the same.  I'm hoping others closer to you can suggest a good support group.  Maybe if you check out the bariatric surgeons in your area you can find out about any hospital sponsored support groups, since most of them have one.  Good luck!
