Kaiser PCP in the Reston Area

So after much pleading and fighting and crying, I FINALLY got my boyfriend to go to the doctor this past winter. He hadn't been in so long that he was afraid of what he might find out. Well, at the first appointment, the doctor told him he was sure that he had cholesterol issues, and to go get some bloodwork done and to come back in a month. He did the bloodwork, came back like he was supposed to (even though it took a bit more than a month to get him scheduled for the follow up) and the doctor at that point told him he had hypercholesterolemia (or something to that effect) and that he was going to refer him to a cardiologist. This was in April. So a month goes by with no contact from the doctor. That's when I told Pete that he needed to get on the ball and get SOME kind of answer from his doctor. So he started calling. Once a day for the past TWO WEEKS. At first, the excuses were, "he's with a patient", or "he's out of the office". Then, last week, it was "he's had a family emergency and won't be bac****il next week." In my mind, this is UNACCEPTABLE. He now wants to change doctors, to one who might actually take the time to call and explain where the referral is, or perhaps give him a prescription to get his cholesterol down in the meantime. Something has got to be better than the cold shoulder that he's gotten thus far. So, I have a few questions. First, can anyone recommend a good, moderately attentive (see also: someone who MIGHT return a call sometime!)  PCP from Kaiser, preferably in the Reston (or surrounding) areas? Also, Pete is a good candidate for surgery himself, and would like to know how one might get started on the whole WLS journey through them. Any information you can give me would be a great help. Thanks so much!

The tough part of WLS is not the first year, it's those that follow.

I don't know if he has any connections with Kaiser, but Dr. Khalid Abousy has an office in Annadale.  At least he did.  I saw him in the Stafford office he has now.  But he diagnosed me back in 03 with cardiomyopathy. he is a very good Cardio Dr.  He is also very supportive of WLS.  I saw him for my cardio clearence.   http://connect.inova.com/physician/mddb.practice.pra_view?p_ pra_id=681620 Edited to add:  See what this preop diet is doing to me. I can not focus and I am so faint.  You were looking for a PCP not a Cardio.  I am sorry!!!

Julie, I don't of any Kaiser-related PCPs, but I highly recommend Dr. Edward Friedler with Annandale Family Medicine.  He was our family doctor for many years until we moved out here to the boonies.  I even made the commute for a couple of years just because I didn't want to give him up.  In the meantime, there has to be somewhere that you can lodge a formal complaint against this jerk...that kind of lack of responsibility is just not acceptable & he should be made accountable.  I hope you consider Dr. Ed, but even if you don't, I hope you have success in getting Pete the help he needs.

Hugs!
Ann

Julie- Hi there! Boys take so long to take care of themselves sometimes...how frustrating that once he did the Dr. dropped the ball. Anyway, I go to Herndon Family Medical (in Herndon of all places!) and primarily see Dr. Janice Ragland. I don't know if they do Kaiser...but may be worth a shot. She's highly supportive of my WLS as a side note.

Hi, Julie:  Wow...what a story!  It's amazing the things we have to do regarding medicine, isn't it?  I am afraid I don't know of any docs through Kaiser...but if he can get a referral outside of their system, I can give you the names of a few docs my parents have been using who have been great.  Just let me know.  In the meantime, best of luck to your bf...hope he gets to see someone great really soon!  :)

Good am Julie, I don't have any helpful information for you other than wanting to say I hope that Pete finds someone who has a better bedside manner. I agree its unacceptable and hope very much that he can get things headed in a better direction. All best!
