Update on Brooke! (Mom2Alex)
I just wanted to update everyone on Brooke's progress since her surgery was today. (I'm her sister and was there all day with her, just got home)
She went into St. Mary's at 5:30AM, was directly brought back for the pre-op prepping. She headed into surgery around 7:30AM. (We didn't see her from 5:30 until she was out of the recovery room) Our mom, dad, her husband, and I started to get pretty nervous because we didn't hear anything until 11AM. She did well in the surgery, was pretty nauseous directly after she came off of the anesthesia, and spent 11AM-2PM in the recovery room. We finally got to see her around 2:30.
She was relatively coherent, able to deal with the pain as long as she wasn't moving around. She had bouts of pain like spasms but has been strong through everything. Around 7PM-9PM they were moving her into the chair so she could sit up. She struggled a lot with that and had a lot of pain and nausea, but was feeling better and sleeping for a little bit by the time I left, around 8:30. She's been using the breathing exercise thing and overall she's doing really well considering she just had her surgery today.
If anyone wants to leave any messages for her, I will print them off and bring them to her tomorrow. Just wanted to update everyone!

Hi Erin. Thanks so much for letting us know how she is doing. Please tell her that we are all thinking about her and praying for a speedy recovery. She is in great hands with the people at Commonwealth Surgeons, that is where I went through as well. Welcome her to the losers bench for us and remind her to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. Thanks again for letting us know!

Hi Erin, Thanks for updating us - I was wondering how she was doing........ Please let Brooke know we are all thinking about her - by tomorrow she won't remember half of the pain and should be a lot better. Just keep reminding her SHE DID IT!!!
They can give you pain medication for spasms - I can't remember what it is called but they do have medication for it - please tell her not to suffer in silence but to ask for more pain med if she needs it! They will usually give you more.
Please tell Brooke I am so proud of her and welcome to the losing side!! Jackie
Good am Erin,
Glad Brooke is doing well. Its going to get better and better.
Brooke - WELCOME to the loser's bench. You're on a journey for sure! We're here with you every step of the way. Know that you can ask us questions and voice concerns and we'll do our best to help you. Walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip.
All best!
