Constipation

OK, this is kind of gross I guess but pretty common from what I hear.  I cannot have a bowel movement without alot of straining and Geez is it painful!  I have bought Walmart's version of Colace to no avail.....what do you all suggest?  I have not lost weight in almost a week either!  The scale is not going up nor down, just staying put!  I guess this could be a result of my stopped up plumbing system?  What do you think would be more effective baby food prunes or another type of medicine?  Thanks :)

I discussed this at my dr visit  yesterday. I did not lose any weight last week (but it is down this morning). I was told to take a stool softner. And also they said yes, that it could hinder the weight loss.  Good luck, Penny

Good am Susan, I'll preface this first by saying call your doc's office for THEIR suggestion for you. Next, my surgeon's office suggests the following: Benefiber, Metamucil, (twice daily at first, then once daily thereafter) Milk of Magnesia (every other day, as needed Dulcolax suppository Fleets enema's Miralax Powder (prescribed by physician) Hope these help. All best!

I take a few stool softeners before bedtime and that has cured most of my constipation - I take the Dulcolax stool softeners - not to be confused with suppositories - the gel stol softeners   - and I can tell if I forget to take then too! So they work for me! Jackie

First and foremost, I would say call your doctor's office. We are not doctors (and don't play one on TV!) I can tell you what works for me.. I start out with sf applesauce, then prunes,  ducolax stool softeners, then  Miralax (which is now available in stores) NOTE : I don't take them one after another, just the fruit one day and if no relief, then I try the remaining recommendations. Drink PLENTY of water too.

Thanks ladies....I will try more fruit.  I can't seem to get anything else in then protein yet but I guess it will come.  Also, I will pick up some other stool softners to try.  I need some relief....fast!  Thanks again....enjoy this lovely day we have.

It also helps if the stool softeners are vegetable based there is a major difference . Are you allowed fruit juice ? Plumsmart it taste so much better than prune juice & has the same effects. Even the one lower in sugar has good bowel moving effects. As the others stated check with your Dr.
