okay, so i saw the nutritionist today and let me say for the record - portsmouth naval hospital is awesome! the nutrition was soooooo nice. she gave me alot of great ideas not only for me, but for my family as well. i have been stressed about cutting sweets out of my childrens diets ( my girls are 11, 12 and 17). i feel like not keeping snack food in the house is somehow depriving them. how backward is that? so the nutritionist goes - give them money to buy a snack at school during lunch and don't buy junk for the house anymore! omg!! this woman should have a gold statue erected in her honor. i know it sounds crazy, but i never thought about doing that! such a simple solution. i swear it was like a dr. phil "defining moment". i see the psych on 6/24 and will have my iron checked then as well. is all goes well, pre-op here i come. you all are so awesome. thanks for the encouragement and most of all - the info. i constantly lurk on the website and just read peoples posts and replies. it is sooooo comforting to not feel alone not just with this surgery, but with this lifelong battle of the diet and quest for a healthy life  and healthy relationship with food. thank you and god bless each and everyone out there - mel

Hey there!  Good idea.  For me it's easier not to have the tempations at home.  My husband is pretty cool about it.  He snacks during the day if needed or in the computer room where I don't see what he's eating.  About the only snacky type thing he eats in front of me is peanuts, but unshelled peanuts make me nauseas, just the smell when he opens the bag makes me want to RALLLLPPPPPHHHHH, so I don't want those.  :P Don't be such a lurker.  We'd love to hear more from you!  :)

Great idea...any sweets bought are bought with the understanding that I get 1 bite (if I really want it) and it goes to work/school after that. But, glad to hear things are moving right along for you.

Mel, you just plain tickle me with all your enthusiasm.  I so remember getting excited each time I completed a task in prep for the surgery.  I'm also glad you've come out of hiding...LOL.  You keep posting, hon...we're here for you!

LOL! you are so funny!!!!   Yes there are always options and mine is similar to yours - keep the junk and the foods I can't leave alone out of the house - it is the only way I can cope with it. The surgery fixes your body but NOT your mind... And a good nutritionist is worth her weight in gold!

Now you have delurked - stay a while! ;-)) You are not alone - we are all here for you!

Good am Mel, Glad to see you posting. Stick around more often. I've got a 7 & 3 year old and I love that I've been able to incorporate so much into their lives almost from the get go. My oldest was just over 2 when I had surgery and my youngest born 2 years after surgery. I do buy them snacks but the smell of them makes me nauseous. I also know what they'll do to me. At times I've been tempted and a couple times I tried things but trust me I've paid for it so I just don't do it. Glad things are going well for you. All best!

What a good idea. I have small children and instead of keeping their fave snack ( the dredded ice cream ) in the house I now keep fat free cool whip in the freezer. They dont know the difference and it's not as hard for me to walk away from! I got that tip from a friend of mine who was a past contestant on Biggest Loser! Brandi~

I keep sugar free snacks in the house like popsicles and pudding. My whole family as a result has lost weight. Before surgery, we were a "snacking family". Eating entirely too much food. Snacks were not controlled at all. Now, they don't crave the sugar as they did before. If we have a church party or special occasion, they can eat some of the "junk food". But at home, we're trying to be sugar free. The kids really have not even noticed (except on the scale).

My nut. is Chris. She rocks! I'm impressed all the way around with the program in PNH. Everyone has been so nice. Remind me I said this after the surgery and I'm sore and whining!!!!  SherylLynn
