pre-op low iron/pnh *763 - BINGO!
i had my first meeting with dr. chastanet at pnh last thursday. i was totally psyched! my number * 763 finally came up. my excitement was short lived. my lab report showed that my iron level was borderline anemic. he put on an iron supplement twice a day and said we'll check my iron level again in a month. way to set me back:( oh well, on the plus side he was really nice, patient and went through all my options with me. does it really take a month for an increase in iron absorption to show? i guess i'll find out.
Well he may think a month is sufficient or he would have said longer......... and a month is only 4 weeks............ and if you faithfully take your iron supplements you should be fine....
Good luck! You really do not want to be going onto surgery anemic as you need all your strength to heal! Sounds like he is a good caring doctor!

Good am,
Its best to be prepared as possible for surgery. I know its a disappointment but to be in the best position when surgery is done is better than to have underlying issues that could have prevented something terrible. Yes, iron is a very hard area to keep in check in fact longer to be honest so I am a little surprised its only a month. In any event, keep your spirits up and keep us posted.
All best!

Don't get your self down. Did he say you could see the nutritionist and Psych? My # is 697and I just got my surgery date appointment on thursday. What time was your appointment? I may have been the person that held the elevator for you at the parking garage!! My surgery date is July 14. It could have been June 30, but I needed it to be a little later. Stay positive. They want you to be a success and that means you at your best when you have surgery.
