I'm with Jackie...more info please.  What make & model & how much $$???  It sounds like this gadget could be quite helpful for me, especially with needing to monitor my heart rate.  So tell me more, darling!

Hugs!
Ann

I am with you Ann. Being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and suffering from and being treated for (well pre op) Tachycardia, I am sure it is something that will definitely benefit us both. If you find out that info, please let me know. Hugs to you!

Ya know, Theresa, I'm frankly surprised that you haven't been outfitted with a defib implant as well.  CHF & V-tach are the main requirements to have one.  Has your cardiologist ever discussed it with you?  If not, I would recommend YOU ask him.  Just something to think about.

Hugs!

I never even thought about it really. My CHF (hereditary in my family. great grandmother died @ 32 with it, my grandmother, her daughter, diagnosed @ 32, and I was diagnosed @ 32 as well) is mainly due to a Mitral Valve leak. He is doing an echo when I am 3 months out to see if it has decreased in size or amount of fluid back up. And since surgery, the highest my pulse has been, without exertion was 88. When it used to never be below 130'ish, resting. It's truly amazing how rapid things improve with this surgery.

Dang it!  I'm here at work and have no idea what the make/model is.  But, it's made by Timex and I bought it at Dick's Sporting Goods fopr $69.99.

You put in your weight, your age, your heart rate and then you can set up your max and min heart rates and after you are done working out, you can review the data - how long you worked out, how many calories burned, how long in target zone, etc.

The more expensive ones let you download the data into your computer so you can track for trends and stuff like that.  For me, I did not need all of that (even though I really WANT all of that!).

Good am Jill, What a fantastic idea. I've priced these and there are a wide variety of them so many factors would play a role in this purchase. Which model did you choose? What were your deciding factors? I'm glad you've found this out. It could explain a lot to/for you. Please keep us posted on how it works. Hope you are doing well. :) Hugs............

You are SO right...it has explained SO much to me already - especially the 7 pounds that I cannot get rid of. It shouwed me that i was not expending the amount of calories I thought I was, but much more.  So, it really really opened my eyes to the deficit my body runs on.  That, combined with some of the research I have been doing has really made me go WOW!. Anyways...for me, I wanted something that monitored my calorie expenditure.  Nothing more (ok...I really wanted the more, but cannot justify it at this time).  So, I went to Dick's Sporting Goods (I had a coupon for there) and looked at what they had.   The Timex was the least expensive with the feature I was looking for. If you are interested in one (which I HIGHLY recommend), you can do some research on the "net" to determine what features you want.  Just remember, you will be paying for those features. The very basic will monitor your heart rate only.  The Polar runs about $50.00 for the basic.  To add calories, add a few dollars. Mine also beeps at you when are outside of your training zone...which is really good, because the other concern that I had was when running, I had no idea if I was outside of my zone.  HA!  I found out that I was perfect. I also put it on while lying in bed to determine my resting heart rate.  I was proud to see that it was between 57 and 60......athletic heart rate. I've learned ALOT about my body since getting it..... Last night, I ended up doing a fitness dvd and found that I burned over 500 calories in 40 minutes.  Something I would never have guessed....200 maybe, but not 500.

Obviously I don't know about Jill , but mine is a Polar F11 and it cost $150. I don't know if that's expensive or not as far as these things go, but it seems mighty expensive to me! Of course, I got mine through my trainer and not at a store but I found it online at Dick's for $160. In pretty colors, no less! Mine is just gray - I'm going to need to stress to Bryan that in the future, it is important to let people choose their colors. These kinds of things matter to us ladies!!!
