I am 5 days post op and have a problem or it may be normal I just am not sure. on my lower left side  all of a sudden my skin feels numb, I was having some pain in it today like when I got up from a sitting position but that has resolved itself I just have the numb feeling and it feels a little funny there. I don't want to call the doctor if this is normal but just not sure and a little nervous about it. Thank you, Vicky

Good am Vicky, Its best to call your surgeon's office if you are experiencing something you are unsure about. They fully expect us to have questions/concerns. That being said, you might experience numbness frequently for a while. My suggestion is that you walk, walk, walk to work out the kinks so to speak. It could be many reasons. So, to get moving would most likely help. If you feel worried I would call the doc to inquire just to be on the safe side. Hope you get to feeling better with this very soon. All best! Keep us posted!

I agree with Kat, check with your doctor to be the safe side.  Although if I remember correctly, numb, burning, *****ly, pain sensations are pretty normal.

That all sounds pretty normal from what I remember, but it's always better to err on the side of caution! I hope that you get to feeling better soon!

Hey Vicky. I am 4 weeks out today and I posted on here about the very same thing. Still to this day, my skin sometimes feels numb. I did mention it to the dr's office and was told that it is normal due to alot of nerves being cut. As a matter of fact, I had a C-section with my son 8 yrs ago and sometimes, if I still touch that incision, it occasionally is numb as well. But as others have said. If you are unsure, please ask your doctor or at least call their office to find out. Hope you are doing well.

Thanks Theresa!!! I see you are doing really great.  Did you have a problem getting in all the required liquid at the beginning? I make sure to get my protein in daily.......all 60 grams but have trouble getting in the other 64 ounces of fluids. I force myself to get the protein and the vitamins in because they are so very important but find myself sometimes going a couple of hours with nothing else. I do try every day to improve that part of it................it is just sometimes really hard.

Hey girl. Just to let you know that if you are drinking protein shakes, (carnation instant breakfasts, slimfasts, etc.) that those ounces of liquid count towards the 64 ounces of liquid daily. I drink about 100 ounces a day but 38 of them are from the Carnation instant breakfast and 3 glasse of milk. You are right, it is hard but you are only a few days out. Give yourself time. You are doing great. All you can do is your best and each day, try to do a bit better. Big hugs to you!

Thank you for your responses. I have been walking alot, I walk a mile every morning now and then more during the day and the evening. Hey it gets me out of the house which is so nice. I am actually amazed that I don't feel tired and have plenty of energy........must be the protein.

I never had any numbness, but think it's always a good idea to check with your surgeon's office.  No question is a bad question.  :)  But getting tips from other OH'ers doesn't hurt either!  :)

I am not any help here as I never had any numbness but I think it is fairly common - but please check with your doctor whenever you have any kind of pain that doesn't feel normal.... I am sure in a few days it will all be away... Good luck and welcome to the losing side... Jackie
