Liver shrink diet???

I was just wondering if I should be doing a liver shrinking diet.  I am just a few days away from surgery, and the dr. didn't say anything about doing it, but my procedure involves moving the liver, and I wonder if it would help in the surgery, ie. less bleeding, if I shrank the liver some.  What do you all think, and what is the diet??  Thanks so much, not long now!

I woud suggest you do whatever your doctor has said he wants you to do. I didn't have to do one either. Some doctors require it - some do not. And usually the diet is two weeks long so it is probably too late now anyway.  You don't bleed less if your liver is shrunk - sometimes it just helps surgeons move it easier and less chance of them accidently nicking it. during surgery. Believe me - if your surgeon was concerned he would have you on that diet..... Good luck with surgery....... Jackie

Thank you, I just feel like I should be DOING something, Ha Ha.  I can't believe it is only 9 or rather 8 days away.

Jackie is absolutely right: not all docs require it.  Mind didn't, and you can see my pre-surgery stats below. Good luck!! Ample hugs ...

Good am, Your doc would tell you whether or not he'd want you doing one. Not all require this. Mine didn't. If you are concerned, you should call and inquire about it. Have a great day! All best!

Thanks ladies, I am just impatient I guess.  I will try to wait patiently and not worry about what I am not doing.  This will be a busy week, so that should keep my mind off of it.

My mother in law didnt have to do a liver shrinking diet either. All doctors are different. I'd follow their instructions and if you really want to do something, just eat light the few days before. Good luck Brandi~

With Dr. Mann I only had to do a 4 day clear liquid diet, including the bowel prep. Remember the tips for chugging that stuff down. Chill it, mix with a clear soda..sprite, ginger ale (diet if you are diabetic) and use a straw. Follow with a glass of water.
