I also meant to say that there is a cereal I will eat dry occasionally and that is Fiber One - I sometimes have some of it in yoghurt......... Jackie

My nutrionist also suggested the use of lactose free milk.  This may be another thing to try for you!

I don't have a problem with milk. Actually, I do great with it so far. I use it for protein, drinking a few glasses a day, which add to my fluid total. Maybe it is the drinking and eating at the same time. lol. Thanks for the advice.

I have always tried to understand why they push milk when there is 12grams of sugar per 8 ounces in it . I guess I listened to Vitalady (Michelle of www.vitalady.com) ) who always said milk was not good for us so I never drink it and haven't since surgery...... Many people do drink milk of course - I just never touch it.  Personal choice. A bit like alcohol - some people still drink it and I haven't had any since before surgery and won't  touch it again after attending a lecture from a doctor who told us all the dangers we could be facing if we drank post surgery - was good enough for me! I never really liked the stuff anyway...... I am a coward at heart lololol! Jackie

It does have a bit of sugar in it which does make me think. But at my 2 week follow up, my dr's new menu sheet stated that I could stop drinking the Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes if I could get down 2 8 ounce glasses of skim milk. That's what I do but alot of days, I still drink that shake. I haven't had it made me dump and my sugar has been well below 175 since surgery, with no insulin. Amazing.

I am happy with my sugar level since surgery too - usually around 95 these days and I am glad - no more insulin, no more drugs - wonderful. I hope it always stays that way! In a few months you may be under the 100 too and never have to worry about it again! Jackie

Good am Theresa, You've gotten great feedback here. I personally DO NOT eat cereal. I also do not drink milk as the norm but if I do its skim milk and not much of it. I really and truly believe that breads, pastas, cereals etc and just not something we should eat. Its a personal preference and one I stick with. IF I eat breads its usually double fiber, no crust, one slice or wraps and this are rare and usually a couple times a month. BUT I'm over 5 years out as well. I really hope that you continue to do well and leave yourself open to new things instead of the things you are used to eating. A lot of that is in your head from being pre-op. Just trying to look out for you. Hugs.....................

I am with Kat here - I do not touch bread except for an odd bite of it maybe once a month or so - no rice and no pasta and mostly no ready meals (processed) because of their sodium content.  Again, like Kat, it is a personal choice but I know from pre-op days I would not be able to stop at a little so I just cut it out and then I don't develop a taste for it..... I am an all or nothing  person - where I can't control my portion of it,  I just do not have it around. I stay out of danger that way.  The surgery fixes your stomach but not your mind - maybe some day they will also do a labotomy at the same time lolol! Jackie

What Jackie said...to me, it's a bit high in sugar.  And the carbs are a bit much, too compared to protein.  There are plenty of other cereals on the market that are much lower in sugar and are less processed (better for you). Now, this is all my personal opinion.  Someone else may see things differently.

I am still deciding to eat or not to eat. I have been eating some oatmeal and I have had good luck with that. I want to be able to have a bit of variety so that I don't keep eating the few things that agree with me so much that I end up sick of them and have nothing to fall back on. Not sure if that makes sense. So for now, we are holding off on the cereal trying and we will keep searching for other alternatives. Thanks so much for the advice. As always, I can count on you!
