question for those who are farther out than me

So on my 2 week follow up, 2 weeks ago, the doctor told me that I could progress to cereal. That excited me as well as scared me due to the horror stories I have heard. I used to eat Raisin Bran. That was my all time favorite. I know now, that I can't eat that but I did find a cereal similiar to it. It is made by Glucerna, which for those that don't know, is a company that makes shakes, protein drinks and now cereals for diabetics. What I am confused about is if, based on the nutritional information, this is not something I should eat or if it would cause problems like dumping. Below is the nutritional information and I am welcoming any and all opinions.

Serving size 3/4 cup
calories 110 w 1/2 c skim milk 150
total fat .5g
cholesterol 0
sodium 210mg w 1/2 c skim milk 275mg
potassium 200mg
total carbs 28g w 1/2 c skim milk 34g
dietary fiber 5g
sugars 10g w 1/2 c skim milk 16g
protein 3 w 1/2 c skim milk 7g

Thanks for reading. Big hugs

My opinion  - and only my personal opinion - but I never eat anything with double digit sugar and I know milk has 12 grams in sugar in 8 ounces no matter which kind it is so I stay away from cereal. I would eat outmeal instead. Higher in carbs but lower in everything else........ so the carbs plus the sugar content make it a no no for me. But there are others here who do eat cereal and they would have to give you their opinion..... I do not eat ceraal every day either - I usually like more protein like eggs and ham etc At this stage you probably do not have to worry so much about carbs but I started watcxhing my carb content early on and then counted calories when my weight loss had slowed down... I also tend to think that cereal with milk makes it a slider food which means I would be hungrier much  sooner. It is also a matter of personal taste... Hope this helps... Jackie

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely take into consideration. I have been eating oatmeal, (the low sugar type) with a bit of skim milk in it and have been doing fine. I have found that I have no problem with consuming milks which is good since that's how I am getting a bit of my protein in. Maybe I will just wait on the cereal. Thanks again.

I eat the low sugar oatmeal too - banana bread - delicious isn't it ?- I am strange - I like it thicker and with the skin on it lol! In the UK we eat it with salt on it and the cream of the milk - so when I first came over here and saw oatmeal sweet and with fruit and bananas etc I used to turn my nose up at it. Now I love it and doubt  I would want to go back to having it with salt...... How our tastes change... Jackie

Oh I do love it too. My favorite is the Maple & Brown sugar. I make it with water, add a bit of skim milk and a smidgen of butter. Make it soupy like. YUMMY!!! I could not imagine it with salt. I hope I never lose taste for that!!

lol! If you haven't lost taste for it now - you are unlikely to lol!! My family in the UK would be horrified if they could see me eat that kind of oatmeal lol!! Jackie

Hey there!  I wouldn't eat it.  Remember what we said at books a million...cereal and milk just do not agree with a lot of us.  I eat some cereal dry but when I try to add milk with it I dump every time.  And I rarely dump on anything!  I would stick to plain oatmeal for a while or dry cereal.  I am over 3 years out and I don't plan on trying again anytime soon! Hey there. I know alot of people can't eat it or don't tolerate it well. I just was looking for a bit of variety, even if ever so small. I may just try some other cereal, like cheerios, as recommended. And maybe in a bit... not right now. This truly is a live and learn, try as we go experience. Thanks for the advice. See ya soon!

16g of sugar. No way! You're asking for trouble there.

I had weight loss surgery. I did it the easy way.

Seems as though this cereal is not a good choice because of too much sugar which makes me wonder WHY THE HECK IS IT MADE FOR DIABETICS, who obviously are not supposed to have sugar????
