Hi everybody. I'm Jamie. I live in Chesapeake, VA. I've just started the process at Portsmouth Naval. I'm on my 6 month monitored weight loss. They say I will have the surgery around Feb. of next year. I want to have the RNY surgery. Anyway, I have 2 wonderful boys, ages 12 and 4 and an awesome husband who has been in the Navy for 19 years. I am type 2 diabetic, have severe obstructive sleep apnea, GERD, PCOS, and hirutism. I'm ready for it all to go away but most of all I'm ready for a healthy long life where I have energy and can do lots of active things with my children. Anyway, that's me. Hello all!

Hi Jamie and WELCOME!!!  I had my surgery 2 months ago tomorrow, hit a rough patch with pneumonia after surgery, but now 2 months out (1 month back at work), i feel GREAT, i too have sleep apnea, and cannot wait til it goes away.  I have a 12 yold daughter, we are just counting the days left til school ends (NINE!).  The ladies and gentlement onthis board have a font of knowledge and are truly wonderful.  Never feel silly asking a question about anything, ok. welcome again.  lys b

Hello and WELCOME!  What a journey you are about to embark on.  The process at times may seem long, but hang in there.  It is so worth it in the long run.  I went to orientation in Sept 07 and had surgery May 08 so my wait was not to terribly long. I am a newbie also, just having surgery 10 days ago with Dr Chastanet.  He is awesome!  I am in the learning process of dealing with the day to day what I can eat, what my pouch will allow me to eat and toning down the amount I can eat.  I am following my books to the letter and trying to get all the protein and liquids in.  The vitamin and supplement regimen can be exhausting but again this is new to me.   Just wanted to wish you Good Luck on your journey.  This board has been amazing, truly supportive and someone always there to pick ya up when your down.  Stay close to the boards, read and learn everything you can and you will do fine.

Susan K

Hello Jamie, Welcome to the board. I've learned alot from these gals. I'm about 4 weeks out of surgery. Things seem to be going pretty good for me. Just wanted to send best wishes your way. Please ask any questions you may have.

PS...I used to live in Chesapeake for a short while. I still have friends in the area.

Hi Jamie, Welcome to the OH Family. I went to oreintation Sept 07 and I have my Pre Opp this Friday. It is a long process but it really makes you think about  what you are doing and learn about what you will be going through before, during, and after. This is a great place to ask questions and learn. Hi Jamie. I am a post op newbie, being only 3 1/2 weeks out of surgery. When everyone tells you that you are about to experience the ride of your life, they truly mean every word. This has been the most informational, most confusing yet most rewarding thing I have ever done for me personally. Before surgery, I was on 17 pills a day, for high blood pressure, tachycardia, asthma, congestive heart failure and was taking 4 shots a day, 1000 units, for diabetes. 3 1/2 weeks post op, I take 1 pill a day for my heart and nothing for my diabetes. It is TRULY AMAZING. You will hate some of the things you have to do but you will do nothing but love what and who you will become. Best wishes and big hugs!

Hi Jamie -and welcome to the Virginia Board!   We have all been where you are and had to start somewhere so please feel free to ask us anything and someone will usually have the answer! It may seem like a long time to you - it did to all of us  - but if you use the time wisely to get as much information as you can, your journey after surgery will be much easier. Knowledge is power!   I had type 2 diabetes before surgery and none afterwards and haven't taken any medication since..... it was the best single thing I ever did for myself! Good luck and keep us informed of your progress! Jackie

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, ladies. I have tons of questions already. I will make a separate post though so they don't get lost in here. Jamie
