Liver Shrinking Diet

Ugh! I am sitting in the house trying to sleep because I am not allowed to eat.(well can drink, but still starving). I am on the 2 week liver shrinking diet. I started it Monday, and keep feeling a little worse each day. I feel like I can hardly hold my head up. I just want them to knock me out till surgery day (June 2nd). People said it would get easier and just frustrated because I honestly am feeling worse. My surgeon said how important it is to follow exactly (which I am) but so scared that I am going to cheat. My husband is so supportive and trying to tell me how good I am doing (which only seems to make it worse). Sorry, just need to vent. I wish I could sleep till June 2nd!!!!!!!!

Hello, I don't know exactly what your diet consist of (do you get any food for 2 weeks?), but feel free to vent all you want. I just wanted to say that my 2 week diet was really hard, BUT it was the best thing mentally  I did to prepare for after surgery. I hope you feel better. And I love the saying "This too shall pass". Best wishes, Penny

I'm with Penny, I know right now it seems HORRIBLE to have to do the LSD.  But it really helps to get over what I call the "food hump" before surgery.  I'm so glad that I had to do a 2 week LSD, because after the first week it was all downhill.  :) You are supposed to have protein drink right?  I just wanted to make sure you aren't surviving on water alone.  At least you will get some calories in and of course protein.  :) I had to do 5 shakes per day for our LSD, that was a real bear.  UGG. Best of luck and figure it this way, you're almost halfway through it!  :)

Hi there. I am sorry that you are having such a horrible time. I am just 3 weeks out and had a surgeon, Dr Bautista, from the same practice you are going through. I too, had to do their liver shrinking diet, a shake for 2 meals of the day and then a meal for the other one. Yes, it was hard at the beginning and I admit that I faultered on it but it really does pan out for you and help you come to terms with what life will be like after the surgery. You couldn't have picked a better office. Maya, Jeanine and everyone in that practice is awesome. If you have any questions please feel free to message me. Jut think, in 8 days or so, you will be beginning a brand new chapter in your life, one that you have worked so hard for. One that you deserve. Big hugs to you

I am sure it is difficult...just keep the goal in mind, and "your eye on the prize!"  June 2nd will be here before you know it!  :)

Wow, that sounds really difficult. I wish you well going through that. Just take it one day at a time. One hour at a time or one minute at a time if you have to. ((hugs))                                 Jamie

Hi there, I know you don't know me but I just signed in and it's been months since I've posted.  I had my gastric bypass surgery almost 2 years ago and I know that what you're going through right now is difficult but believe me when I say you WILL look back and say it was all worth it.  I too had Dr. Hutcher and he's an amazing doctor.  Listen to him!!  I was a size 28 and now I am a size 12.  I'm tall at 5'9" and I never thought I would be able to walk in a store and just pull a piece of clothes off the hanger and wear it.  Wow...YES I CAN!!  and so will YOU!!!  Not to mention that I'm healthier than I've ever been in my life.  I can walk for miles without tiring and I can do all the things that once was a struggle for me.  Keep the faith and remember that this is only for a short period of time in the realm of your entire LIFE!!   Always, Kathy
