Weight loss update

So today, I went to Cameron's school to sit with him for lunch. I stopped by the clinic and weighed myself. At my pre op 4 weeks ago, I was 297 1/2. Today, 3 1/2'ish weeks from surgery, I am at 262. That is a total of 35 1/2 lbs in 4 weeks. I wanted to get to 265 by my 4 week follow up, which is next Wednesday and my first "big goal" is to be at 250 by my birthday, June 14. I think maybe that goal is reachable now. I am floored, flabbergasted and shocked that I have done that in this short time. I am finally noticing a difference and honestly, I am becoming proud of myself. Proud that, even though I do falter, and I do, that I manage to get myself back on track and ultimately, the results are becoming visible. I am so excited, I just had to share. Thanks for reading and have a happy & safe Memorial day!

Woohooo! Well done Teresa!!! That is phenomenal! Now about your goals......... be very careful not to set goals that you may not make because if you don;'t - you feel like a failure - which you certainly are not!! I am not saying you can't lose that much by your birthday - all I am saying is be careful not to feel bad if you set yourself a goal that even though you do your best it may not be attainable...... your body is a funny thing  coperates and then does not then does etc..... Just don't want you to be disappointed........ Jackie

Thanks for the congratulations and kind words. I am super stoked so far but also do realize that there will come a time when I don't lose or don't lose as much so I look at any weight loss as weight that I don't have anymore and am just happy about that. Now... this goal setting is new to me, especially with regards to weight loss. How does one set a goal. I mean I have my LONG term goal weight, but with the little goals, how much is too much, or how much is too much to expect or anticipate. Any advice is well wanted and needed! Thanks

It is very difficult to predict weight loss because everyone is different  - in the first 2-3 months you can lose 50/60lbs but it is hard work. By month 4 it can slow down considerably. I wanted to lose 100lbs in my first year but only got to 97lbs and I was disappointed until someone asked me when I had last lost 97lbs in a year and they were right   - never!! My surgeon never gave me a goal  he said I would know when my body had got to a goal weight and I suspect I am at it - I would love to have got to 130lbs but it is never going to happen - I will sit between 145 and 150lbs  and that is fine by me... so 127lbs lost and hopefully staying that way..... So, my advice would be to look at the long term goal and just have mini targets toward it like a monthy target - like 10lbs a month - or 6lbs a month - because it will slow down and you need to be prepared for it.... Now men on the other hand seems to lose weight much faster and don't have to come down as low as we do.....their metabolism is different...... plus they usually work out much more than we do and have more strength....... so they have different goals..... You will get to where you need to be....... I have no doubt of that... Jackie

Theresa - I hardly ever post here but the subject of goals is very interesting.  As Jackie, said each person's body is so different - plus the WLS causes even more differences.  I never felt like I could predict how much I could lose during any given period of time.  So, instead, I set goals for hydration, protein and exercise -- the weight loss followed at my body's pace.  Instead of trying to forecast what I would lose in the future, I got a surprise everytime I looked back at what I had lost.  I hope you continue to celebrate your progress and be proud of yourself for sticking to your personal plan! Hey Cleo. I like the ideas you have for your goals. I may take those and use them into my own journey. And thanks for your kind words! Hugs
