Question about SWEETNESS !!

OK, this is really gonna sound wierd especially coming from me because I love sweets.  But, since surgery I am having a hard time with anything sweet.  Like my crystal light drinks, my sugar free puddings even my sugar sugar added applesauce tastes sweet to me.  I bought  afew of these New Whey Protein Bullets for extra protein and they are so sickening sweet to me.  ANY SUGGESTIONS or is this just something I need to adapt to?  Also, before surgery I was able to tolerate the Adkins shakes and even Carb Solutions but now its something about the texture.  Ugh!  I do like the Isopure drinks and for anybody that has access to the commisary they are half the price then GNC and Vit Shoppe.   I had my one week post op appt today and he was pleased with everything.  I came home from the  hosp 18 pounds heavier than going in!!!  Fluid and Gas he said, but I am headed down now never to be this high again!  My current weight is 244 which is down 12 pounds than pre-op.  Guess I need to figure out the ticker thing.   I welcome any and all suggestions on the sugar taste of everything.  I do remember they said that your taste will change and it sure has!   Susan  :)

Hey Susan. Good job on the 12 lbs. Remember that is 12 lbs that are gone forever. Before surgery, during my liquid pre op diet, and even during my hospital stay and the first 2 weeks at home, I used Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added). Three or four of them a day. Now I am like you. The sweetness makes me sick. I am able to get 1 day, which is good because my dr says I don't have to do them unless I need them to meet protein requirements. Everyone swears by the Unjury, an unflavored powered protein that you add to things. I ordered a few samples and am waiting for them to come in. Sounds like you are doing great. Oh by the way. When you figure out that ticker thing.... Please let me know! Or better yet... fix it for me! hehe

I have a sweetness sensitivity post-op also.  It's just something I've adapted to.  I pretty much for protein, I just deal with it, get it down and go BLAH when I'm done.  :)  It's all a learning experience.  :)

LOL ~ Thats what I do Lauren, choke it down and say "BLAH"...... Theresa ~ When you fix your Carnation Instant Breakfast do you use the no sugar added and also do you mix yours with skim milk or water?  If we mix with skim milk we add more protein right, cause the package lists the protein only for the powder?? If I find any wisdom on the ticker I will pass it on!  It took me forever to figure out how to put a pic on my profile!   Susan  :)

Hey Susan. I use the Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added). It comes in a few flavors but I only like the chocolate. I mixed 1 packet of that with 1 3/4 cup of skim milk, because I couldn't stomach it if I used less. It was too sweet. It makes quite a bit but no one says you have to drink it all in one shot. I would drink half and refrigerate and drink later. If you make it that way, it comes up to 19 grams of protein a shake. Also, you can add Carnation powder milk, I can check my folder for how much and you get like 15 extra protein grams. Those shakes are honestly not that bad. If you have more questions, please feel free to message me on here.

Hi, Susan:  It seems tastes change post-op, and if you are like me, they continue to change.  The best piece of advice I can give, and this is only from my personal experience, is to try different ones, based on directions/advice from your surgeon/nutritionist, and stick with what works.....and if things change after awhile, keep looking and trying.  I'm 8 months out, and still finding that things that I liked a few months ago, don't appeal to me now and vice versa.  It keeps life interesting!  As far as the ticker...I will PM you with the directions.  Not hard at all.  :)

Hey, Theresa:  Sure!  What I have done, that seems to have worked, is:  Go to tickerfactory.com -- develop your ticker.  Once you get to the end where it shows the ticker to you, highlight the ticker, right click on it, and click on "copy" in the new window that pops up.  Then come back to the Va forum, go to the button on the left for "user settings."  When you click on that, it will have a block for your signature....click on that so your cursor is there, then press "Ctrl" and "V" (OH's way of pasting), and it should show up.  As you update your ticker on tickerfactory.com, it should transfer to the OH ticker for you.  Let me know how that works!   :)
