What drinks/mixes (as far as protein is concerned) is the best for right after surgery. Any favorites? Name brands? I am not sure how to go about this. Also where is the best place to get the sub. B12 at?  Thanks for any help! Jenna

There are so many choices for protein & everyone's tastes are so different (& can change after surgery), I recommend getting a lot of samples & just plowing through them til you find one you like.  As for the B12, I prefer the one at Trader Joes but will settle with others when I have too.  :)

Good Morning.... There are many drinks available int he market that are beneficial to us.  Just make sure that it is high in protein, contains Whey protein, and little to no carbs.   The one's that I know of that are good for us are:  Syntrax Matrix, Scientific Protein Delite, AchieveOne, AnyWhey Protein Bullets, IDS, Whey Gourmet, Syntrax Nectar.  There are many more, but their names escape me right now. Plus, there are Oh Yeah Protein Bars and Power crunch Protein Bars - both are pretty good to eat and are high in protein. Check out Bariatriceating.com - they have samples that you can purchase.  The Viatmin Shoppe carries many of the brands I have listed above. As for the B12, I use a liquid from the Vitamin Shoppe. Good luck!

Good am Jenna, You've gotten good responses from the others. I wanted to reemphasize to you that taste buds WILL change so choose a variety of different protein supplements that you would like to try. I have found that ones I thought sound disgusting really aren't so bad and the ones I thought weren't that bad are hideous. BLECH! So, its trial and error. I'm 5+ years out from Lap RNY & I drink AcheivOne's, enjoy the Power Crunch bars (well some of them) and I also am trying some different samples I've just recently gotten. As for the B12 I take a sublingual I get from Vitamin Shoppe. All best!

There are SO many types of protein available. It is really a personal choice and your tastes may change after surgery. So you may go through many different types even if you initionally find one you like. My favorite was Isopure. You can pick them up at the commisary as well as any GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. They are a fruity drink. Not a shake. They come in flavors like Grpae Glacier and Blue Rasberry, Passion fruit...there are several different flavors. They VERY MUCH remind me of a gatoraide. They come in a very tall glass ( almost like a SOBE drink from 7/11 ) and there is 40 grams of protein!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are going to be down towards Ft Eustis, let me know I have a whole bunch and I can let you have a couple to try. Brandi~

Hi, Jenna:  As many of the others have said, the best thing to do is to try different ones.  I have found that the some of the ones that I loved right after surgery, I don't have a taste for at 8 months out...tastes change, particularly after surgery.  What I found I like and tolerated well following WLS were:  Isopure drinks -- tended to like the grape the most -- best over ice; Muscle Milk Light (it comes in a powder form and also can be bought pre-mixed in a portable container -- both of which are good, in my opinion) -- favorite flavors tend to be the chocolate ones (I'm a chocoholic!).  I have recently become a big fan of Unjury (unjury.com) -- their protein mixes are very good, blend well and don't have a gritty taste, in my opinion.  Many people like the protein bullets, others swear by AchieveOne....test taste...it's your best bet!  Congrats on your upcoming surgery, and best of luck in your search for a good protein supplement you can enjoy!  Regarding Sublingual B-12 -- I have used several types, but currently am using the ones I get from BariatricAdvantage.com.  :)

There are also sites like www.vitalady.com where you can buy samples to try  so you don't invest a whole lot of money and find after surgery you don't like the protein any more.... also at our support group we regularly give out  protein samples for people to try..... maybe a support group can help you try some other proteins.......  Jackie
