Normal pre op behaviour?
I started to binge today like i need to get rid of my not safe foods in the house. Just stuff that will tempt me if it's here post surgery. For crying out loud i havent even been to my 1st appt yet . When i go to the grocery store i really am not buying any foods that will tempt me. I have already stocked up on Slimfast sf jello, sfcool whip, sf dream pops, broth . I am normally a control freak, way ahead planner, slightly OCD. Why do i feel the need to get rid of the food i have already had here ? Am i that nutty ?
Sounds pretty normal to me. I too went through the getting bad stuff out of the house & the binging on things I wasn't going to be able to have anymore. You are trying to get prepared & that is great, although trashing the stuff instead of eating it may be a better idea so you don't gain any before surgery. Just keep on moving forward!!!!
Thanks for all the responses but i don't think i was clear on "getting rid of" . I started binge eating the foods & had to stop myself before i went too far . Is that normal trying to rid myself of the foods already here ? .......not too left much cause like i said when i go to the store i am now only buying the good safe foods . I cannot be trusted with the trigger foods which is food right now...... its like the ultimate last supper or something .
This was suppose to go below Mc Cleans post
Good am,
Its a positive stop removing temptation from your sight and reach. Some of those choices are great to have around keeping in mind your taste buds will change after surgery so stocking up in large volumes of anything is not the best idea. Its best to be as prepared as possible versus coming home and needing things. Each surgeon is different in their details of the pre-op diet so its best to speak with them as well. At this point, I think you've got some good things. Hang in there and all best for your 1st appointment.

I often counsel those like yourself to do exactly what you are doing . If you know you have issues with these foods, get them out now . Find things that are going to be condusive to your journey. As Kat said , your taste buds will change during your journey. But it does not hurt to start living the life now. And no you are not nutty, sounds like to me you are smart and taking charge ! Much respect , Tink

Hey Lee Anne,
You definately have the right idea about getting rid of the unhealthy foods or what we call trigger foods (your favorites that call your name and cause you to go back for more!)Please give it away or tra**** because you don't want to put on what you will have to take off later!!! I try hard not to bring anything into the house that tempts me so terribly that I could regret eating it during a weak moment!!!!
Please keep this in mind too.
So many people figure when they have weight loss surgery, that they can never touch certain foods again so they want to experience it one last time before they have to say good by to it forever. I have learned after working with my nutritionist for a while now, that I don't necessarely have to say good bye to those forbidden favorite foods. I was taught that a small amount, meaning a couple of bites of one of my former favorites, can be shared with others and I can satisfy my craving without derailing the good work I am doing. I do try to stay sugar free and really watch the carbs but occasionally (in moderation) I do have a cookie when I'm out or share a desert with my family at a restaurant and I can satisfy that craving without falling off of the wagon! You've heard the phrase everything in moderation, well, maybe not everything, but moderation is absolutely the key. Each nutritionist has their own way of working with their patients so do as yours suggests most importantly! You may be surprised to find out that you can reduce fat and sugars in foods that you prepare and make substitutions that are very satisfying too!!!
I have a great appreciation for the way my Nut. has helped me to rethink the way I eat and I am now at peace with food. Yes I do still crave some foods that are poor choices but good progress and good alternatives usually help me to choose more wisely then I used to!! One more thing, after surgery I have a whole new appreciation for fruit and veggies. The fruits seem much sweeter and more satisfying then before!!!! I keep a cut up fresh pineapple or fresh strawberries or peaches whatever is in season, washed chunked and ready to go in the fridge so it's quick and easy to make a good choice.
It's interesting, I think you and I have similar stats, starting weight and goals. If you follow the instructions you are given by your Dr. and Nutritionist and get regular exercise you can't help but to be wildly successful. Good luck and keep on communicating on the message board!!!
