For those that had RNY laproscopically, you know that there is roughly 5 or 6 incisions, but the incision for the drain tube. Well I had 6 incisions, because they removed my gall bladder so I had an extra incision, and then the drain tube incision. Well there is 2 incisions under the left breast, one towards the middle of my chest and one directly underneath it. Well the one underneath, the scab came off tonight and in the scab was a piece of clear wire, string type thing. Of course this freaked me out because I didn't have staples or stitches on any of my incisions. They used what they called dermabond. I thought, lord, this incision is going to heal completely except for this area where the string came through. Of course, I am sure it is from the stitches that they made on the muscles and stuff underneath but I admit I freaked. I took a pair of surgical scissors and clipped it even with my skin so that it wouldn't snag but it is still kinda bothering me.

That would freak me out also!  Yikes!  I think you did the right thing by clipping it level to your skin though.  When you do go back I would mention it to the doctor.  Did you save the stringy thing?  I had no idea they make stitches underneath.  Obviously they will just dissolve then, uh?   You could have left the stringy thing hanging out and told Cameron that is your "beam me up" wire!  Poor child would never be the same!   How is your other wound healing?  Keep us posted!  Susan  :)

RNY on 02/22/06 with
lol! I remember when I had that too - I thought my skin was coming off lolol!  They do use a glue on the top on the skin and disolvable stiched underneath...........  sometimes they come to the surface so don't panic and just show the doctor at your next visit.... Jackie

Thank goodnes someone else knows what I am talking about. I just figured that my incision would heal and I'd have this piece of suture hanging out forever. I did cut it down even with my skin so it wouldn't get snagged but glad to know I am not alone!

I had a freaky thing too. I had a "mini open" RNY so I have one 4 inch scar. About a week after surgery the skin had healed over, but at the lower part of the incision I could see this yellow liquid beneath the new skin. My surgeon's PA looked at it and said it was just a little bit of fat that had its blood supply cut off during surgery and it had turned to liquid and would be absorbed. She made a tiny incision and it drained. This was perfectly normal, but it really had me freaked for a while.

Hi, sweetie! Glad to hear you are doing better. I was worried 'boutcha! The same thing happened to me with the internal suture material coming out of that same incision where my gall bladder had been removed. It healed up really nicely; actually, more nicely than some of the other ones.

I had the same issue with one of my stitches from my gallbladder.  It is definitely weird.  Sounds like you are doing good.
