question about exercise equipment
So wanting to begin exercising, although walking is fine, I am confused about what to do. I mean I know I should and need to exercise but for someone just a few weeks out, which form of exercise or which piece of exercise equipment is best for me to purchase. I was leaning towards an elliptical but have read the posts about that, and me not being so coordinated, lol. Then I was thinking maybe a treadmill. I am sure I will be able to get the right advice here. Thanks.
My advice when you are just starting out is just to walk, be it on a treadmill or around the block. I imagine it's been a while, so there's no need to run marathons yet. Just walk a little more each day...after a while you'll feel like running some. Mix it up with a bike or whatever...but don't get a head of yourself. Just move. The other key is to move at a pace you can keep for a while. If walking at a pace of a mile an hour is the best you can do, then do it!
You'll find that you'll keep getting better as long as you stick to it!
If I had to purchase over again one peice of equipment that would be the most useful I would buy a treadmill as you can walk, jog etc on it.
I do have a treadmill, and a bike and a treadmill/stair stepper and Bowflex already as I have a small home gym - yet I still go to the actual gym too...... I like their other machines as well....
By the way I have always meant to say to you that your young son looks adorable!

Good am Theresa,
Guess I'm gonna be the party pooper here cause I personally don't care for any exercise equipment at least for long periods of time. I get out in nature and love nothing more than vigorous walks in the park(s) especially the ones with trails that have different exercises you can do while walking through them enjoying nature. Now, even in colder months ask my family who think I'm nuts I look like the lil' boy in Christmas Story all bundled up walking. I just cannot stand to be in a room on a treadmill unless its no way around it. Just me and my personal preference. I will say I enjoy free weights, stretches and working out to DVD's. Otherwise, I'm just not for the equipment side of things.
Hugs....................

I guess it depends on what you like to do. Do you have clearance from your doctor yet to start exercising (other than walking I mean?). I had to wait 4 weeks to get back in the gym and 6 weeks to do any abdominal work, and until my lap sites completely healed for swimming. If you are interested, I can check into if AFF has guest passes available for you to come and see what type of equipment you like?
We decided to first look into a used treadmill. Because of the cost of them, I suggested to Nate that we start off used. So I have a $200 budget and am going to keep my eyes open on craigslist and the want ads to see if I can find a good running treadmill to start off with. If we are unable to find one, we'll have to reconsider.
I hope you find something that you will like to work on!

The treadmill offers you the most flexibility. Do you have any exercise videos that you could pop into the TV and do as well? That's an option and the library or a video store will have some that you can rent, to see what you like.
