I arrived home this morning about 11.  Man, I was not prepared for the amount of pain I would have.  I am walking around the house about every hour and I just took a shower which felt wonderful. So, this is the point I sip sip sip walk walk walk, right?  I also was not preapred for the amount of fluid I would come home from the hosp with.  I am so tight in the mid section and my legs, is this normal?  I am taking the loritab every 3-4 hours just to keep the pain at bay.  I wish I could work some of this gad out.  Yummy is making all kinds of rumbling noises so I guess its trying to "get out".  I am drinking water every 30 mins or so along with an Adkins protein drink which I have been working on since I came home, a little sip at a time.  I think I will try some cottage cheese tonight also.  That was my reakfast this morning which I could not eat any of but I will try.  The DR said to try even if it is just a taste. Talk to me ladies, is this all normal?  The bloating has me in the worse pain.  And of course the tummy.  I look forward to hearingback with some advice.  Gentle Hugs......:)  Susan

Let me be the first to welcome you to the losers bench! And yes, all that you are feeling is completely normal. You got it...sip, sip sip, walk walk walk!  I walked laps around the inside of my house for 10-15 minutes at a time. Beside walking to get out the gas you can take Gas X strips  Keep ahead of the pain and rest. I will PM you my number in case you need me. .

Welcome home!  As always, Jen is giving you great advice!  Move as much as you can, and as much as your surgeon has told you...it does make a difference!  Hang in there, great things are ahead!  :)

Congrats on everything so far. Sorry about the gas pains. I didn't have too much when I came home, more so now but it does go away. Wow cottage cheese already and only 2 days out!? I just had my 2 week post op and was told that I can finally try it. My dr must be a slow food progressor. Keep doing what you're doing. As I said, I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and it does get easier. Again, congratulations.

I came home with 7 extra pounds. That was a little disappointing, but it will go away quickly. Before you know it, you will be losing lots of weight. I did not know how much gas pains could hurt, but like everyone before my has said, drink lots of water. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and feeling really good. It gets a little better each day.

Hi Susan, First of all - CONGRATULATIONS!!! You did it and and made it home!!! First step in your journey and the scariest  - accomplished! When you have had surgery you do come home full of extra liquid (it is better to stay off the scales at this point - they only make you feel disappointed ) anf you will also be full of gas! I never had much gas so I was lucky...... you will have extra liquid which will subside in about a week.... the gas takes a few days to so walking and moving around really do help...... In the first week of so you can only just do your best to get all of your liquids in, protein in and vitamins in ........ but as the weeks pass it will get easier to get everything in.... Good luck and don't forget we are all here to help you! Jackie

The gas made me the most uncomfortable post-surgery.  My belly felt like it would split open.  I know you feel tight and ucky and don't want to move, but seriously, doing those little frequent walks really does help it along.  My persistance paid off.  I did laps around the outside of my house in the day and laps inside in the evening for 15min at a time.  It was annoying as hell, but I was absolutely paranoid about not moving and getting a blood clot so I walked walked walked, and then walked some more.  :) I didn't retain that much fluid after surgery but have heard alot of others who did - so I don't think you have any worries there.  Think about all the IV fluids you were given.  Bags upon bags, so you are bound to weigh more.  I agree with Jackie, give the scale a few days rest or you could be frustrated by the number staring back at you. Glad you are back home!
