the numbing feeling.....

I was talking to Lauren earlier and mentioned this to her so I thought I'd mention it here as well. Every since the pain meds have worn off, the incision on my left, the bigger one, is numb around the entire area. Also, underneath, it tingles, like in the muscle area. At first, I thought I may be eating too much, too fast but it doesn't just hurt when I eat or drink. Actually, any time it feels the need. Sometimes it does hurt a bit or mahybe it's just an awful annoyance. Anybody experience this? Mind you, the incision I speak of is the bigger of the 6 I ended up with and according to the dr's and my mom, they really had to stretch it out and manipulate that area. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Hey Sweetie.  Don't stress about the numbness...that's pretty normal for surgical scars.  I have a bunch of 'em!  Remember that there are nerve endings in your skin so it's normal to lose some sensation where your skin's been cut.

Hugs!

Thanks so much for responding Ann. I was beginning to think that I was the only one experiencing it and that I was maybe going crazy. It's a weird feeling. Kinda like an itchy tingly thing. At first it scared me so I paid closer attention and then it was just happening when ever so I just thought I'd mention it to ya'll. Should I mention it to my surgeon on my 2 week post op Wednesday?

If it would put your mind at ease, then by all means mention it, but he'll just tell you the same thing that me & Jackie have said.  Still, he's the doc so go ahead & ask.  The only dumb question is the one that didn't get asked...lol.

Hugs!

Teresa - it is probably as Anne says - it is normal and is just nerve damage and it is healing - it may take a while and is annoying but it usually does settle down..... also you probably have some bruising in there - it can takes weeks to go away even if you can't see it... Hang in there..... Jackie

I'm glad you asked this question. I have numbness also. It was in diffferent spots, but one of them has gone away. Now there is a numb spot on the left side only. Thanks, Penny
