First Obstacle....DONE!

Well, this weekend I jumped my first hurdle.  I started my pre-op diet Sat morn with the good ole clear liquids.  We had my nephew's wedding to attend at 2PM in Lynchburg.  So, the wedding was beautiful and then came the reception.  I actually went through the line and fixed a plate for our son.  Chicken tenders, small quiches, shrimp galore, carved turkey, meatballs, broccoli bites and all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies.  I did fine, I actually surprised myself.  I drank clear punch and iced tea and had a few cups of water.  So, I feel like the first of many obstacles went well. I was wondering something.  I have a had a terrible headache since yesterday afternoon though.  Is this normal?  I don't usually get heachches but kind of figure without regular food not coming in and the lack of caffeine perhaps could cause a headache?   Tommmorow morning I will start my bowel prep.  Happy Happy Joy Joy!  I guess I better set up my library with some good reading material! Surgery Weds morning, not sure what time yet.  They will call Tues afternoon and let me know what time to be there.  I am excited and scared at the same time.   It is storming out bad, I am outta here for now.  HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL THE BEAUTIFUL MOMS OUT THERE!

Congratulations on fighting the temptation. I can relate. My son's 8th bday is Saturday and we are having his party. It was all planned before I got my surgery date. Cook-out foods, pizza, ice cream bar and full size sheet cake. And I will only be 16 days out from my surgery. Ughh! Thank god I was never the cake kinda girl. And thank god I never had to do the bowel prep. But good luck on Wednesday. Please keep us updated!
and Happy mothers day to you too!
Hugs

Hey Susan!

Sounds like you did a great job at the wedding! (Lynchburg is my hometown, by the way - not that that relates in any way ) I know how hard that is.

I've actually done the liver shrinking diet once already, even though my surgery isn't until July (crazy, I know) and I didn't feel well at first either - after a day or two my head hurt and I was dizzy and nauseous. My nut said that was normal at first, but it could also be a sign that you weren't getting in as much as you need. (I was having trouble eating/drinking everything on my schedule in a day b/c it was gross and feeling so yucky I just wasn't hungry)

Bowel prep sounds super exciting Best of luck!

I had a headache for a few days when starting my pre-op. I'm sure it is coming from the lack of food. Keep up the good work.  Penny

caffiene withdrawl can definately cause headaches.  If you were doing alot of caffienated beverages prior to starting your pre-op liquid diet, this could be the cause.  I gave up caffiene about a month prior to surgery and the beginning was hell, but I was so glad to do it, because just like the doctor suggested, you wouldn't want these headaches after surgery since you will already be in the throws of a different and sometimes uncomfortable routine (maybe some lap site pain, or gas pain, etc.)  Best of luck!

Susan hang in there girlie it will get better. The headache is most likley coming from the lack of food and like already said caffiene withdrawl. But this will go away. Drink plenty water or as much as your allowed. And I suggest the tolliet wipes (wet ones) at the dollar store for the good ole  bowel prep just makes you feel fresher and not as painful I know maybe To much info. but just a lil help to make it easier. We are here for any questions or help you might need.

I'm sure someone is going to have a field day with what I am about to say, but here goes. I did the pre-op diet letter for letter EXCEPT I still drank my diet coke. My philosophy was, if I can't eat and I am going to be drinking only liquids, why can't I still have my diet coke and deal with the caffeine withdrawls while on pain meds. My surgeon wasn't too happy with this, but he said it wouldn't hurt my surgery, it would just make it harder for me after surgery to give up the caffeine. I didn't have this problem....never once in the week after my surgery did I want anything to do with a carbonated drink. I was a 6-8 cans of diet coke kind of girl and have not had one since the night before my surgery. I lost 19 lbs. on the preop diet and I know I wouldn't have made it through had it not been for me being able to have my last vice just a little bit longer. If having some caffeine between now and the night before surgery will get you through and prevent the headaches while your not on narcotics...I say go for it!!!

Hi Susan, Well done on fighting the temptation! You ar eon the right path.... On the headache,  sometimes this is caused by dehydration so drink plenty water, caffeine withdrawal which gets better after a few days - but better now than right after surgery when you have all the other things to deal with..... and also less or no carbs or sugar so  your body is being cleansed. You can get through this - just keep your eye on the goal.....! Good luck! Jackie
