Americas Top Model is Top Pooey in My Book ...
I am sitting here today, it is cold , so I have on the TV . I stumbled across America's Top Model -Marathon on MTV .
I am so mad , I want to use the P word .
There is a beautiful woman on here who is a size 10 . And is being told she is a PLUS SIZE . WT-Frick !! ???
Have we become as a society so skinny thinking , that a size 10 is considered Obese ? This young woman has been humiliated . She has totally begun to give up on this . Now , for one , I hate this Top Model show , but left it on for a moment just to see the women on here .
I am here to tell you , that if you are a size 14/16 - you are not a plus size - and size 10 .. this is ridiculus . I know plenty of women who are these sizes and do not show anything but beauty and grace .
I dispise beauty shows like this . Beauty to me starts on the inside anyway ...
Am I the only one that feels like this ?? I mean this woman was 5.9 or better .. and now she is talking about how she will never work in the modeling world . I was a size 26 and was able to do some modeling .. way back when . It all makes me madder than hades .. I tell you . But then again , our society sees the shell and not the inside ..
Now I am watching the Food Network , and I feel better ..
Have a great Saturday ..

Helping Others Find Their Way to a Life They Deserve!
I definatley know where you are coming from. Pretty much everything in the beauty industry, to include modeling, makeup, fashion, and magazines, shows "perfect" woman who are stacked like a toothpick. Personally, America's Next Top Model is one of my favorite shows, not for the way it promotes overly thin women, just that I love seeing the glamorous photo shoots they do, the makeup, and the different countries they incorporate into the series. For a long time I've considered writing them to do a special addition show of ONLY plus size models and incorporate some of the larger sizes, because we are ALL beautiful models in our own right. You are right they consider a 10/12 a plus size, which is just nuts. I guess the only somewhat cool thing from this years Cycle 10 models is that the plus size model got as far as she has, in the last couple cycles they get plucked off far quicker. Whitney is one of the last three contestants and the finale will be this Wed.
When I was younger, I was a 14/16 and way made to feel as big as a house. The treatment I got in high school was rough and made for alot of self esteem issues. Thankfully, maturity and time have served me well and should I ever reach that size again I know I will be a wonderfully CURVY WOMANLY HOTTIE! ;)
Do you get the magazine Figure? I ADORE it because it shows the fashion for the womanly figure and uses the correct size models. SO many times I open a plus size catalog or something like that just so see a size 5 trying to pull off a size 20 pinned on her backside. Geez. I just got my Figure magazine yesterday and can't wait to crack it open. :)

Well in speaking Im still morbidly obese, and everytime I see the words I cringe, I wanna call the funeral home and get sized for my box because to me it still tells me Im gonna die if I dont get down under those marks, and I try so hard to get the weight off but still standing still. So I know this girl was mrtified. I hate that show they have no clue what they do to these women. So sad. Hope all is having a great day.

I actually enjoy the show! A size 10-12 model would be for the most part a plus size model, but an average women who wears a size 10-12 and who is not a model is not plus sized. The fashion industry is insane! I don't necessary agree with the image that they are portraying, but I do enjoy to watch the cat fights and craziness that goes on with that show. Tyra acts so animated, like a bad actress..... It is all Hollywood anyway..

Good am Natalie,
Have to say I'm glad I don'****ch TV often. That show and others give off negatives to many folks and personally because I have younger children I don't appreciate the messages it sends out to them. There are friends in our neighborhood with children who are in middle and high school and I have to say seeing them at the bus stop reminds me that TV and other things play such an important role in their lives that the impacts they are making in their minds is scary. There IS a series I want to watch from beginning called High School Confidential which is representative of 12 girls who go through the 4 years of high school with the ups, downs and everything in between. I also research and keep up with EVERYTHING I can in Kayla's schooling especially planned events, what she's learning etc. I've raised a lil' h - e double hockey sticks with her school and the county and voices DO get heard.
All that being said, in my opinion I cannot understand why folks get so caught up on looks, vanity etc. Its one thing to improve ones self, get healthier, live better and really & truly thrive in Life. Its another when things go too far, get dangerous and although most mainstream society is for money, ratings and such they do have some responsibility in their words and actions. Personally my goals and intentions have never been to be a super model or perfect ..."perfect only makes you crazy" its been to obtain a healthier life and balance and to have a fighting chance to live my dreams.
Furthermore, dealing with obesity and all its charm (I'm being smart mouthed) we already know first hand what its like to live with hurt, anger, disappointment, lies, being ignored, being made fun of, being disregarded and so much more. WHY do we need to give out attention to shows that clearly profess messages that are unhealthy and truly not helpful in the big picture AND that lead to more unhealthy behaviors? Society teaches some WONDERFUL things IF you dig deep and learn the truth but, it also teaches that for every issue or problem we might have there is an easy out ...............problem is there is almost ALWAYS a price to pay. So, the question then becomes are we willing to pay the price??? I think we know that answer.

I watched the whole series of high school confindential. It was enlightening and I was amazed that high school is the same way everywhere. It was hard to watch in the idea that it brought up memories from high school and I kind of like to block that out..... I felt they didnt spend enough time on each girl, but it gave a good look into their lives. I agree though that the media causes negative body images and can create problems that werent there before.
I never understand why peope watch these shows- they are maddening and completely farcical (spelling) to me - so I switch it off - if everyone did that, the networks would not purchase the shows. So don't get mad - watch something else! The producers wuill continue to make these shows as long as peope warch them..
Sorry - tired today and have no tolerance lol!!

The Food Network will cure all kinds of anguish.
I agree with the absurdity, Natalie (and others). Having a 14 year old son, I worry about the impressions that he is getting of what a "normal" woman's body is supposed to be like. Now THERE'S a fun time, huh?
