Well I had my initial consult with my surgeon this morning and found out that my iron levels are low so now I have to take iron for 1 month and have my blood work done again before I can be cleared by nutrition... I was pretty upset this morning, but I know that everything happens for a reason... So tonight when I got back down to PNH I will pick up my medication and then go to the support group meeting!!!! Oh well i've waited this long what's a few more weeks gonna matter!!!! have a great week everyone!!!! Missy

Missy- Just try to remember that they want you as healthy as possible when you have your surgery so that you have the least probability for complications! It's a good thing that they're so careful! I know that doesn't make the waiting easier, but hey...in the overall scheme of things you're right...a few weeks isn't gonna matter. Christina S

Missy, I am sorry to hear about your iron levels. This will all fly by. I can hardly wait for you to get a date. Does it still look like sometime in Feb? I hope so. I am trying to choke down a protein shake. I hope I get used to this stuff soon. Just hang in there. I am thinking about you. Take care and God Bless. Corinn

Iron levels are so important for surgical procedures. I have to keep mine pretty high (for me anyway, normally I'm near borderline) right now because of all the plastics I'm having and taking those pills sucks but I know I got to stay healthy. Don't worry, it will be worth it in the end!! Jane

I have to agree with the others. I know it is very disappointing though. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that you will be good to go next month. Anna

Hi Missy ~~ Sorry to hear about your iron issue. When I was going through my preop testing almost every test I took had some problem. (it's all in my profile) Seemed I would never get through the process. But, I just kept telling myself "failure is NOT an option" and kept jumping through the hoops till I finally made it into the operating room with Dr Lord on 2/3/04. Chris and Linda in Nutrition are the BEST! They want you in tip top shape for your surgery---and I might add they are there postop for whatever other issues come along. I have contacted them many times the past 3 years for guidance. Portsmouth has an excellent program that is very thorough. Those of us that have gone through the program are truly blessed. You have a wonderful attitude in spite of the delay. Keep the positive thoughts and trust in the Portsmouth program. It is SO worth it! Hope you enjoyed tonite's Support Group--I couldn't go due to work related problems. Angel on your shoulder

Missy, I know your disappointed but you definitely want to be as strong as you can going into the surgery. Great attitude, a few weeks aren't going to matter. Just hang onto that thought! You have a great week too! Best wishes, Kathy
