I have to go to Fort Belvoir for a week and I'm seeking advice from people who know the area... Does anyone know of a decent hotel near the base? I'm traveling alone - so I'm looking for a place that is in a "safe" area and feels "safe" inside - preferrably with a restraunt inside or right next to it... (that way I don't have to run around the area alone) Any suggestions???? ((any feedback on where NOT to stay is appreciated too!!)) Thanks! Pam

Hey Pam, I have to ask, WHY do you NEED to be in Ft. Belvoir for a week??? I apologize if it seems forward, but I was BORN there and cannot imagine anyone needing to BE there LOL.. Anyway, please contact me, if you need assistance.. My parents live within 30 miles of Ft. Belvoir, and like I said, I was born there.. If you are in dire cir****tance, I will call my mother, and she will put you up, while you are in need... Lemme know if I can assist. My work email is [email protected] and my home email is [email protected]. I have NEVER offerered my parents up, girly, but trust me, this is NOT an area yo want to "chance".. ya know?? Please take me up on the offer, if you need it. Mom will graciously offer you a room and meal for your stay, and dad will be as hospitably as can be. Wendy

Pam, There's a Best Western and I think an Econo Lodge very near Ft. Belvoir on Hwy 1. They are in the Mt. Vernon area...decently safe. I don't think they have restaurants though. Beyond that, and a bit on the pricier side, you can stay at any of the Marriott's (Residence Inn?), Hilton, Shereton, etc. located in downtown Alexandria - near old town. All of those would be safe, have restaurants, etc. Just make sure you're in the old town Alexandria area. Ft. Belvoir is about a 10-15 minute drive down the George Washington Parkway (a beautiful drive!) from old town Alexandria. We lived not quite a mile from Mt. Vernon for 4 years. We used to spend a lot of time on Ft. Belvior for commissary, doctors, pool, etc. HTH. Please feel free to email me if I can help further. p.s. where not to stay: you'd be safest to stay out of DC. There are many good, safe, hotels there but without knowing the area you run a safety risk.
