Hiya! I am Karen and I am just starting my WLS journey. I go on Friday January 5th to kickoff my six month supervised diet. I have Cigna Insurance and am hoping things go smoothly and that my PCP is on board. Anyone know about Cigna and what I have ahead of me feel free to let me know! Thanks for your time!

Hey Karen, Good luck, what you are doing is tougher than the two weeks of liquids after surgery in my opinion. I have Aetna and I went to their website and read,...printed and read all they required for approval and surgery. Then I called and talked to an Atena nurse for advice and interpretations. It helped me meet the requirements on the first try which also required me to followup with doctors and be suggestive in some ways to approach approvals. It was very helpful with my cardioloigist and family PCP/preferred physician. I had one appointment with my PCP where we filled out the required 6 month diet and exercise paperwork as my visit. The WLS surgeron was the first doctor I got with that really knew how to deal with insurance. Everything went great for me. My suregeon said they deal with Cigna and Aetna the most so I'd say you got a good chance for approval if you get all of your ducks in a row and not expect exceptions and waivers. Best wishes and congrads on your 6 month program kickoff! Let me know if I can be of any help anytime.

Good luck Karen! I don't know anything about Cigna but I can just advise you to hang on in there and do not let them wear you down! Many insurances are hoping you will give up or will refuse you first time - just be determined and don't give up! Six months sounds like a long time but you can use that time to get educated about the process before and after surgery - then you will be better prepared... Jackie

Welcom to the board Karen. I will tell you that Cigna was a pain in my rump for 2 years. They screwed up my paperwork and denied me twice for surgery. I hope you have better luck then I did. Good luck on your 6 month diet. Make sure your doc keep meticulous weigh-in records. that's why they denied me. I had to start the six month diet over twice because they were screwing with me. I'm glad I switched insurances!
