Maria,
I don't knonw your doctor's program but if you had RNY, eating anything the first two weeks is a No No, liquids are the order of the day for two weeks followed by at least two weeks of soft and pureed food, according to my doctors program.
If you are sick to yuor stomach, call your doctor or go to the Emergency Room and get checked. If you are leaking, you will get real sick real fast and it won't get better. If it comes and goes, you are suffereing from overdoing what your new stomach can handle. Even the swelling may not be gone from the surgery at this early date.
If you want to talk, I'm in Colonial Heights VA, up by Petersburg. Give a call, 804-526-1817 or email me at [email protected].

Hi maria,
i had my surgery last month on november 15, and after a week or two i tried to experiment with different things.. but i still chewed them up very very well and alot of different foods made my pouch hurt so i stopped doing that.. and i havent been sick in awhile.. i am pretty sure you didnt pop your stomach open being its a pouch now.. and if you over ate it would cause you pain... has it? i got phyiscally sick and threw up... and felt pressure where my pouch is.... you are eating to eat becuase you think you can handle things... but like my dietician told me... think of your new stomach as a baby because it is... its still healing... you didnt have a lap band correct.. you had major surgery and they gave you a new tiny little stomach and you really need to be careful... eat small tiny meals and eat the foods your allowed too... if you feel hungry in your head... drink water or crystal light that always works for me... it phyiscally fills me up and i dont want to graze.... please be careful....
let us know how your doing...Beth
Hey Beth I think that what am doing is grazes..it's like yeasterday I ate a peace a choc candy. an nothing happen to me. But on x-mass day I did eat a little bite of turkey an little bite of ham an stuffing it was a very small amount. an yes I felt sick an had to ly down. But it's like now I want to eat all the time. it's not that much but I feel hungry all the time. that's when I said to myself hmm maybe I pop my stomach back. plus I can sleep on my tummy now. is that good to sleep on your tummie it makes me think oh no maybe i pop it that way..am only suppose to be on soft foods. am going back on them now an am not going to cheat anymore. if I feel hungry I will drink water or do something lol..i have my 3 weeks check up on jan 2. I just hope I didnt do nothing to myself an went though the surgury for nothing ...thanks beth
Hi Maria,
First of all it has only been a few weeks since your surgery so you should really not be eating that much, You should not try to eat all day long. Try to have just three meals and 2 snacks a day and do NOT eat in between meals. This is called grazing and is not good for us at all..... You do regain your appetite back over time. It is highly unlikely that you could pop your stomach back open but you can get into bad eating habits....
My advice is drink more water. You will feel fuller if you can drink more water and you do not want your body to get dehydrated. Make sure you are taking your protein and supplements. If you feel like eating a lot of the time it is probably head hunger, not real hunger, so do something else to occupy your mind. Take a short walk, a shower or do something but you are not really hungry, your head is just telling you that you are....
If you had "popped" your tummy you would be very sick so you would know about that. I have never known anyone ever do that - so it is highly unlikely that you could damage yourself that way.. However if you do feel very sick, physically sick, you should go see your surgeon or your doctor to rule out a leak.
It is natural to be scared and unsure where you are in the process. Please keep us posted as we are all here to help you. You are not alone...
Jackie
Hello Jackie. And thanks I don't think I have a leak. because I don't feel sick. I just think my head is telling me to eat an I eat. I just though that after I had this surgury I couldn't really eat anything. like when I frist got home from the hosp. I could only take about 3 to 4 bites of pudding in a pudding cup but now i can eat almost the whole cup..is that good??? an yeasterday my son had some chips an with out me knowing it i took a hand ful an ate them..an then said omg what am I doing..an I didn't get sick after eating the oile chips. so I sit here crying saying the surgury didnt take. I wish I could talk with my doc. but he gone now. he ret right after my surgury that was on dec 11. 2006 an the office is close for the hoildays. so that's why I come to ya'll to help me...thanks all for use...Maria
Maria, your stomach will adjust and expand a little as time goes on and you will be able to eat more so you still need a level of self control here. The surgery altered your body but not your mind... and what are you doing even trying to eat chips??? Maria you are going to sabotage the very surgery you had!! And chocolate?? Marie I am 10 months out and I have never dumped - to this day I do not eat chips or chocolate - or bread, rice or pasta - I do not know if I dump and I do not want to find out! Please do not try to test your limits at this early stage. You need to be planning a life change in eating habits - not seeing what you can eat to bypass the very surgery you had. That is not good. The other people on here are right - go back to basics and stick to it and please please get some support from a Support Group. They will reinforce everything you are being told here.
No-one is trying to be mean Maria - we are just shocked that you would even try these things so early out. You need some more education on how to eat after surgery and you need to talk to a nutritionist quickly before you do yourself any harm. One chocolate and a few chips will not necessarily make you dump but they are empty calories and bad habits to start with.
You have a wonderful honeymoon period right now which will last for a few months but after that honeymoon period is over you had better have changed your eating habits or else you will fail at this surgery - and I know you do not want to do that. So stick with the program and stop grazing and watch how successful you will become. We are all here to support you - and also to kick your ass when you do stuipid things
Jackie
lol! sure - you can rely on me and many others to do that for you lol!! We all want you to succeed Maria and you will find we are all brutally honest on this board. We have all come too far to not succeed! You are going to be just fine as long as you walk before you can run and stick to some basic rules. You can do this Marie - we know you can do this!!
