support group?!?

Hi everyone! I went to my first dr.s visit dec 14th and they gave me a paper for support group. I think the next one is jan 11th...but i was wondering is it for all people that have had WLS or just the RNY people? also, how long is it and what does everyone talk about? I think it sucks its only once a month though...and its so far from my house( im in va beach) but i will be at the next one...just wanting to know what to expect. thanks jorden

Jorden, it's well worth it. We make an evening out of it and meet at Outback around Chesapeake Square Mall at 5:45pm and then head over to the 7:15 meeting. Every month they do something a little different, but the main thing is to have Pre-ops mixing it up with Post-ops. They have a question & answer session and they usually have guest speakers. They've had plastic surgeons there, they've had therapists. Next month (January 11th) they are having a clothing swap and a little runway show for all the 18 months or over post-ops. Everyone can dress up in evening gowns and show off their new bods. For the 18 monther's they will put up an old picture on the big screen so you can see the difference. It's amazing. My best friend is going to do it. The doctors and the rest of the staff are there as well to answer all questions and its lots of fun. It is usually around an hour or so. go to the norfolk surgical group website. maybe they have info there. i used the same doc. recently there has been a change to the meetings. you can always call the office too

i found an email. turns out there are still two per month. 2nd thursday in cheasepeake. and the 4th in va beach. heres the info We are back on for the Chesapeake Lifestyle Center for the Chesapeake Support Group. It will continue to be the 2nd Thursday of the month, with the next one being January 11, 2007. Again, it will be from 7-9 pm. THIS SUPPORT GROUP WILL BE FOR THE PRE-OP AND UP TO 1 YEAR POST-OP PATIENTS. In addition to the above, we continue to have our Kempsville Lake Support Group on the 4th Thursday of every month, with the next one being January 25, 2007 from 7-9 pm. THIS SUPPORT GROUP WILL BE FOR THE GREATER THAN ONE YEAR POST-OP PATIENTS. PLEASE NOTE: YOU ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND ANY OF THESE SUPPORT GROUPS WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT TOPICS SPECIFIC TO THAT PATIENT POPULATION WILL BE DISCUSSED ONLY. In addition to the above Support Groups, Fran Johnson, Registered Dietitian, and Michele Doss, exercise physiologist, have a support group on the 1st Tuesday of each month, called BEWELL. The next one will be 1/2/07, and it is also from 7-9 pm. It is held at the Health Education Center, which is across from the Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital Emergency Room Entrance.
