As it gets nearer to surgery we all get a little more scared. You will not remember a great deal about waking up - I had my surgery at 8am but still don't remember the recovery room etc or slowly waking up. I wasn't really aware of time until about 3pm and the whole day was a blurr. I did have some pain when I woke up but you have a pain pump and make sure you use it! Every hospital and surgeon's procedures for after surgery varies but you will be taken good care of. People will always try to scare you - especially if they have not had the surgery. Judy Boon's surgery was many many years ago and the procedures get better every year as surgeon's gain more experience doing them. There is also much more known now about vitamins and supplement, food deficiencies etc now. You can't really compare the two surgeries. My advice would be to relax a little and look at all the people on this board that would do this again in a heartbeat..... Good luck with surgery. In a few days you will wonder why you were so scared.... and in a couple of months telling other people what I am telling you now..... Jackie

Marie - not everyone has a tube in the nose - I didn't and I know many others who didn't. Perhaps it depends on your surgeon and whether he thinks you need one. In any case if there is, it will be out before you know it - the first day or so is pretty blurred - doesn't feel like it at the time, but when you look back you realise how little you remember... Friends think they are helping you because they have listened to bad stories but for every negative story there are thousands more which are very positive. I am only just over 9 months out and still working at losing and I think it is the single best thing I ever did for myself (well except for having my son lol!) Your friends do not live in your shoes and you are doing this for yourself - to get healthier and live a longer life (not to mention to get onto normal clothes that you can buy anywhere!) It truly is not a surgery for vanity but one that opens up doors for you. When I go into a restaurant I no longer look around for the size of the booths to see if I can fit in them. (And your friends will tell you that you can never eat out again - not so! You may eat less and make healthier choices but you will be full and satisfied) It is very natural to be scared of surgery and the lifetime commitment that this is - but you will have the support of everyone on this board to help you - you are not alone.. Maria, I just wanted to drop you a line honey, and tell you that it is normal to be nervous. But one thing that will help, and I think it will distance you from Judy Boon (see, I never even heard of her!!) is to read lots of profiles from people on this forum. You will see what really happens, what to expect, both good and bad, how you feel, and most importantly, this is the question everyone asks -- am I losing fast enough!! But really Maria, just go read the profiles, (especially read Leilani's because I think she is such a thorough writer and very easy to get involved in her journal and she spices it up with great humor) and that will educate you a little bit and to have some answers for when your friends bring up negative things. Be positive, and hang on since this will be the ride of your life!! Oh, and Maria, be sure and journal your thoughts (which are normal even being nervous) so you can see how you progress. That was a biggie for me. Let me know if I can help you. I'll be thinking of you Monday and let us know when you're on the losing side!! What a great way to end the year and start a nice new year getting healthy and thin!! Doesn't get any better than that. Oh, and my one big - huge - regret!! Is that I didn't do this 20 years ago when I was a young babe!! love donna
