Does old gall bladder surgery make one ineligible for laproscopic procedure?

I am waiting to begin my journey after Jan. 1 due to insurance coverage. My husband will probably have the lap-band procedure first, then I will follow when he has healed enough to help me. I have an old gall bladder scar from breast bone to navel. I have been told that this will probably mean another surgical incision. Any experience here? Granny_Smith

No. Surgeon have more skill now at doing this surgery laproscopically. It used to be if you had prior abdominal surgery they would only do you open but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore though it may depend on the surgeon him/herself. Good luck, Granny! Kathy

Thanks Kathy. I'll think positive. But, like you say, ultimately it is the surgeon's choice. I was trying to figure out the two pics you have on your post, then it suddenly came to me.......your before and after! WOW You look terrific! Granny

I had my gall bladder out back in 1987. I too have a scar from my brest bone to my navel. I asked my surgeon about my old scar and he said that it should not cause him any problems. And it did not. I had my wls laproscopicly Jan. 2006. I had some complications (a blockage in my instetine) and they had to go back in the second time 1 day later through the same incisions that they made. So, to answer your question, no, my old gall bladder surgery did not make me ineligible for wls. Good luck!!! Cathy .
